This is my dream machine. You can't believe how many times i dig the web to find new information covering this marvel. Gosh too bad they don't release it in europe too. And the scary thing is it's running xp.

Under-powered hardware running with xp... can you imagine? Oh.. no touchscreen?? 256MB RAM???!! TRANSMETA processor???!!!!!!!! How much are you asking????!!!!!!! Good luck!

You got the picture... at this point.. it doesn't really matter with its USB 1.1 and 802.11a only. You can certainly use notepad and calculator on it.

Oracle

Comments on Order the OQO

It looks great, and it's a nice concept, but they've got to take at least $500 off that price. Hopefully the price is just for the bleeding-edge crowd and management types that will put one on the company card, and at some point they could find a price that they could really sell these at.
No 11g though... that's I-just-ate-soap-dumb.

Brad

Comments on Order the OQO

Well, considering that many of the specs have been set in stone for a couple of years, now ... the USB 1.1 and the 802.11b makes sense.

I've been following the OQO for almost a year, now, and I gotta say... I am STOKED. It is far too expensive, but as Brad said, most of us will wait for the price to come down.

I mean, a lot of people complain about it's less-than-cutting-edge hardware, not realizing that they've managed to get a fully-functional (not oversized PDA) PC to run on something that's so tiny. That Transmeta processor runs on 7 watts of power (tangent: Trasmenta just released a 2ghz processor that runs on 3 watts), they have 256mb of ram and a 20gb same-model-as-ipod's harddrive on a mini(MINI, MINI) motherboard. It's impressive.

The managed to get the hardware they knew would be tolerable for a year or two, spent several months getting it all to fit and not run too hot, and people STILL manage to complain about it's specs.

You folks are never happy, I swear! :)

James

Comments on Order the OQO

Not to mention that their sales page is down, due to high traffic. The battery life of less than 2 hours is going to prevent much use. Plus what are you going to use it for? The keyboard is going to slow input right down. There are other devices (like the Vulcan miniPC) which are going to face the same problems, plus their screen resolution is going to be 1024X768! Text is going to be near impossible to see. It's a nice idea but in principle, you can only make something so small before it's too difficult to use.

UHF

Comments on Order the OQO

wow. i might have to sell my IBM PC110 for this. amazing

John
