WTF would Apple want to work with Moto after all the processor drama?

I actually blogged about Apple starting a WiMAX network (nationwide) and pairing it with an iPod/phone/camera/organizer (or pocket mac). End to end, the whole widget.

They did it with the PC and the Mac OS, then with the iPod and the ITMS. Why not become a WiFi telco and sell the phone to go with it. This is no good is it? Losing focus ain't we... Although my Quadra (Powered by Motorolla, right) is still going fine to this day, i can't see another adventure down that path could progress anything- and that's what its all about? How can anything improve within such a over-populated market? In order to enusre the music player didn't run down the battery, I think the CPU/GPU in such a device would need to be truly multitasking. At the moment the iPod will drain the battery if put on a long track, e.g. audiobook, so I suspect that the current ipod CPU/GPU can only do one task at a time. A multitasking CPU will likely drain a battery faster. Using two independent Li ion batteries, to give a guaranteed active phone life, would make for a much more expensive and bulky device (to overcome heat dissipation/explosion issues with these type of batteries). Anyway, one day you may get your dream, but don't underestimate the value of independant devices for dealing with different needs.

Richard

Comments on Apple and Motorola working on a motoPod or PhonePod?

http://loosewire.typepad.com/blog/2004/11/smart_phones_ha.html - over at Loose Wire, Mr Wagstaff seems to be running into that issue where everything freezes (remember that? My iPod does it every now and then but usually when it's in my pocket and I'm walking/running. The music doesn't stop (nice touch Apple) but changing songs doesn't work and the display freezes. Combining the two in theory sounds awesome, but practically would be a bad thing.

AJ Kuftic

Comments on Apple and Motorola working on a motoPod or PhonePod?

Remember iphone.org?

http://reports.internic.net/cgi/whois?whois_nic=iphone.org&type=domain

Rob de Jonge

Comments on Apple and Motorola working on a motoPod or PhonePod?

There is NO WAY this could be true.
