The "Discrete" version, which will give you more options than what you see now, such as a dedicated video card, will be offered I believe after February 4th... don't quote me on that date though. As for 5160... you can say bye bye... the 6000 was made to replace both the 5160 and the 8600... however, not like the 5160 which will EOL (End of Life) by February, the 8600 will more than likely EOL sometime in or after March.

As for you 9200 users... yes, the 9300 is coming. Unfortunately, even us Dell employees don't know what the projected release date is. I just know it will eventually replace the 9200. I can assure you might see hints of the 9300 on Dell's website as early as next month. And I can assume, just like they did with the 6000... they will release options for the 'lower' end 9300 first, and the "discrete" version later. Don't ask me why they call it "discrete"... I don't even know.

Finally, to the person who commented that Dell is building these laptops to look like an Apple... if you think so, that's your opinion. Dell is actually creating these with the new color scheme due to the fact that many customers requested something clean and bold... and also a main color that would possibly match the different types of snap covers that are available for them, such as Cherry wood, Carbon Fiber, Bamboo, etc...

Dell Rep

Comments on The Inspiron 6000 and 9300: Dell's first Sonoma laptops

I want a 6000!

Dell Rep

Comments on The Inspiron 6000 and 9300: Dell's first Sonoma laptops

I want a 6000!

Dell Rep

Comments on The Inspiron 6000 and 9300: Dell's first Sonoma laptops

Hi Guys,
Specifically, what drew me to this forum and my interest in these two new offerings is the PCI-Express GPU.
I'm currently on the verge of purchasing the new XPS for the 9800 mobility option as I cannot get it with any other of Dells product line.
The PCI Express option is interesting...can anyone tell me if this means that the new Dell's would be upgradable GPU wise?

Prime

Comments on The Inspiron 6000 and 9300: Dell's first Sonoma laptops

Wtf man! 6000 has a integrated graphics card: gma900 - which is supposed to be better than intel's previous extreme graphics version but any external graphics card smokes the hell out of it!
Now I am considering whether to buy a 8600 with a dedicated graphics card or 6000 (with gma900) or simply wait till Dell offers 6000 with a dedicated card. When I got it the screen was a total loss, about every fourth column of pixels was screwed up. The problem was worse at a resolution of 1400x900, but even evident down to 1024x768. I called Dell and got a very plesent customer service person who took about 1.5 hours on the phone to determine that I needed to send the computer back in for repair. She then mentioned that her manager would like to talk with me... That is were the conversation went sour! I couldn't believe what the guy said, he actually said that I had made a mistake ordering their standard screen, and if I wanted to operate at the higher resolutions I would have to upgrade the screen (like 1024x768 is hi-res!), he was kind enough to offer this to me (Not free of course!). I pointed out that my 4 year old HP notebook operated clearer that my new Dell at 1024x768, and I did not appreciate him blaming me for ordering their standard LCD just to get an "Up-Sale" out of the deal. The conversation quickly degraded from there. I am now waiting for my repaired Dell back, but I can say this, if the screen isn't up to my expectation, I will be returning it, and I doubt I will ever order a Dell again.

Joel

Comments on The Inspiron 6000 and 9300: Dell's first Sonoma laptops

I just recently bought a 6000, and it came with a variety of problems, the windows media player was not working properly and at the same time, the keyboard keys were not completely fastened in and one even fell off. I found the customer service people extremely stupid because she kept trying to tell me what the media player was supposed to do, and when I finally told her that on old computer, there is not one single problem with media player and its the same thing. She just said oh, and I finally got so angered I just hung up...that took 45 minutes. Finally I just reinstalled the media player, but I believe that I am going to send the computer back because of the keyboard. I have found that the dell industry gets cheaper and cheaper also. It doesn't matter who makes the card or how fast they claim it to be, cards with onboard RAM will be TONS faster. I recently bought my Inspiron 9300 (WUXGA 1920x1200 TrueLife, 2Ghz Centrino, Bluetooth, WiFi, 80G 7200RPM drive, 1Gb Ram @ 533Mhz, Dual Channel, Windows Media Center 2K5, NVidia GeForce 6800 GT @ 256Mb) and it blows away anything I have ever used when it comes to graphics applications. I don't think there are 256 Meg Shared graphics cards yet, but I guarantee they won't perform half as well as dedicated cards. Definitely wait on buying a 6000 until you can get it with a dedicated card.
