I got lucky and got one w/ the latest firmware - an option for no camera sound :D.
I've been spending all my free time making themes for the little black and silver beauty.
It's like a Moto RAZR that looks good AND can actually do something. After having a fleeting encounter with an unlocked S700 on a train from Brussels to Amsterdam, I've been dying to get one. I didn't have enough time with it to make a final determination (reception, iSync, e-mail, etc.), but this review is all the confirmation I need.

as for battery life, the ccd can take a good bite if you let it. using it as just a phone, i can get about a weeks worth of use- never tried more than that. if you use it heavily as a camera though, you'll want to charge it nightly, especially if you shoot a couple hundred shots that day.

Plus, the only program this phone can use are Java! What the hell? My Nokia 3650 can do much more. I use my 3650 as a remote control, Divx/Xvid movie player, a Camcorder, etc. Don't fall for all the bells and whistles Sony throws at you. I temporarily went insane and bought another SE, a t610, which has ass reception, crappy customer service, and continues to plague me with intermittent problems which the wizards in Hyderabad seem to not be able to assist me with. Not only that, I bought it for the Bluetooth, which works fine with my Mac (except for data/modem stuff) but has a range of about 2 feet with my Jabra 250 (i.e., pants pocket to ear is too far, and yes, I'm less than 30 meters tall).

I'd urge you to consider a really, really bad 4th world knock-off of the worst phone on the planet before buying an SE.
