iPod running Linux rescues PCs from BSoD, story at 11

Anyone who is routinely pressed into service as technical support on a professional or familial level will appreciate what was demonstrated this week at IBM PartnerWorld: a Linux-based technology that transforms a wide range of portable devices into powerful "rescue and recovery" devices. An MP3 player, a USB thumb drive, or a cellphone can run the software that enables booting a PC from the device, accessing data from the PC's unbootable drive, accessing backups located on the device, providing an emergency productivity shell — even rebuilding the PC's drive. An iPod mini was used in the PartnerWorld demonstration to rescue a PC that had succumbed to the infamous Blue Screen of Death. The software has been dubbed in the press as "IBM One-touch Rescue & Recovery On Linux," which indicates the press really needs to practice being a bit more terse.
