What, like you wouldn't have accosted Damon Dash about his plans for the Rocbox 2? We were gonna be all "Dude, stop fronting, you know Jay-Z built the empire" but his bling was all up in our eyes and we couldn't think but to ask about the Rocbox. Specifically, what's up with the fingerprint and shelf-dust collector, and more importantly, what's next? According to the Dame, they've got a Rocbox 2 planned—40GB, thinner, lighter, but no specifics yet. Frankly, after the first one tanked as hard as it did, we're surprised they're busting out #2, but hey, uh, roc on?
I love the comments in here, I too would like to tell Dash, come on player you know jay-z is the reason there even is a rocafella. Not to mention when you leave Damon Dash to do his own thing, he comes up with bad ideas like this rocbox.. and doing a part 2.. which by the way is just like ben affleck saying he can't wait to start casting gigli 2, you just can't be serious.
Didn't he just buy pro-keds (the sneaker company) ...
I mean how many bad ideas do you get to have and still be in business... did you see the movie paid in full .. rocafella films... jesus.

There needs to be a compelling reason not to buy an iPod, and I have not seen any company from sony to creative offer anything superior. What makes the ROC think they can do it better? I bet the menu structure leaves you with 'a million and one questions'. I have some 'reasonable doubt' that is going to be a big seller.

As a follow up to #1. There could never be anything that beats iPOD, iPOD is super sexy, huge drives, open source friendly, hi-fi sound quality, and oh so cheap, and so many features including, great included headphones, fm tuners and broadcasters, bluetooth, IR, no special software necessary, SD and Compact Flash slots, huge battery life. Not to mention everyone and his dog has one so I can feel like I fit in at the local polo shirt and khaki club with it strapped to my belt. Get a clue man and pull ahead of the trend.
Thank you, Stephen! I took a ton of flak for my comment the other day in another post (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000177037004/) when I sugggested the possibility that there might be a viable alternative to the iPod. It feels good to be validated.
to 4.. er the iPod IS the HD music market.. Creative is pushing flash players because the iPod owns the HD market.
With that out of the way, you've got to realize that most people on here who bash the iPod are only doing it to sound like they have high standards, like they're elitists.

Good luck, enjoy using a player made by a company that knows absolutely nothing about software. Who cares, they just leave it up to MS to handle it. Enjoy the 'seamless integration' of the WMP cookie-cutter music stores.
You've got to realize that the iPod isn't about looks. Think about it. The thing is in your pocket (I have an iPod mini that hardly sees the light of day)... you don't go around showing it off... the iPod is about ease of use and the PLEASANT user experience of iTunes.
Since MS hasn't done anything as nice as iTunes since.. er... well, Encarta was very nice... iTunes' success speaks for itself.
BTW. Apple's new iPod Badge program is brilliant for another reason. Not only do they make money for doing pretty much nothing, but when a customer walks into a store and sees a wall of accessories with a little badge that says 'Made for iPod'.. you think they're gonna pick up a Rio Carbon?
Personal I don't care much for Ipod... iAudio however has gained some undivided attention... iAudio X5 is where it's at in my book...
they need to focus on making the first one better, not bigger! i haven't seen a firmware update in 8 months!!

I bought a rocbox. What a piece of crap. I am returning it to Macys. Why? NO SUPPORT from Mr. Dash's website. I have sent 3 e-mails with no response. I have called and been placed on hold for over 26 minutes. The rocbox won't even charge out of the box per instruction booklet. Damon Dash, you run a subpar operation. You must employ thugs like yourself. Apple, here comes another customer for the iPod. Please don't let Damon Dull put out another product just to steal money from his urban following. Another example of "black on black" crime. Rocbox - 2 thumbs DOWN. Maybe that is why there are thiefs on eBay trying to sell them........probably Damon himself...........LOL
