Let them dump their landline and provide them with VoIP instead. In the end, just about everyone needs voice communication, whether it be landline, VoIP or Cellular. Verizon should provide all of these and let the customer choose what they want. I'll give Verizon the benefit of the doubt and assume that providing this option would require an overhaul of their current architecture/billing/etc system and they are holding off until the whole MCI thing is sorted out. If the MCI thing does go through, I would think all of this would fall into place. If not, I'm on cable & VoIP as it is now and will bet others who have that option will choose it as well.

Cameron

Comments on Verizon puts it back on: no naked DSL for you!

seriously, there's this consensus that voip get's to be just as expensive as a regular phone line. The only difference with voip is it isn't regulated, and there is no customer support if your line goes down, ie: Call your isp!

Comcast just released Comcast digital voice, and it's the same thing- 49.00 for voice over your cable modem. (that being said they did buy a chunk of AT&T, and are actually acting like a real telecomm. But I digress...

Verizon is one of the most frustrating companies on the planet... they could really be a leader, but instead they fight against philly wifi, don't think cellphones should work, and don't get that landlines are a dying breed.

rich.green

Comments on Verizon puts it back on: no naked DSL for you!

This is cool because most ILECs won't allow DSL service if you port your number out to an CLEC.

Scott

Comments on Verizon puts it back on: no naked DSL for you!

Hi Everybody,

I red your comments re naked dsl and I just wanted to let you know that on 5/25/05 I tried to order "naked DSL" from Verizon in NY but they refused. Well, it took two weeks for the equipment to come, and when I got it, I had no synch.

I called and they put in a trouble ticket. After another week I called again and they told me that my trouble ticket was closed. But I still had no synch. Finally I talked to a manager who told me that I can't have DSL without POTS service.

It took them three weeks to tell me that! And I still don't have an internet connection! I'm supposed to call tomorrow to get a land line turned on and then they can turn on my DSL. What a bunch of liars.

Mike
