The Vitamin-C Shower
Wow, we totally had no idea that by releasing the "correct" amount of ascorbic acid (aka
vitamin C) into your tap water, you could
effectively neutralize chlorine or chloramine, transform alkali water to weak acid-water, and, uh, "anion radiation".
According to Sejong Sonaki Corp., who make the Vitamin-C Shower, what we've got here is an effective treatment for
"skin disease," "shining your hair", "asthma sufferers," and "atopy skin and allergy sufferers". How about instead of
getting busy with Vitamin-C Shower, we just take a nice long relaxing soak in a tub full of Tropicana? Some
pulp, s.v.p.

Why do I have to be the first one to make a "golden showers" joke?
Now that is what I would call a "golden shower"!!
I actually own this, yes, I paid money for it and have been using the new 'head' for a little more than a month. So far, no annoying 'orange juice' smell, nor do my eyes burn if I get a little water in them. On a serious note, anything to minimize the chlorine being absorbed into my body while taking a shower, gets a thumbs up from me. Give it a try!
Um, the sarcastic "Wow, we totally had no idea" approach is all well and good, but I hope you're not really saying you had no idea that adding an acid to alkali water would make it less alkali and more acid, are you? :)
It always disturbs me to hear this type of misinformation being spread around the internet. For starters, there is nothing magical about the technology behind this shower filter. That is, for anyone that paid attention in high school chemistry class.
Both ascorbic acid & sodium ascorbate (Vitamin C) have a long history as dechlorinating agents. In fact, the EPA has authorized ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate as safe and effective methods for wastewater dechlorination prior to reintroduction into the environment. The main reason for this can be attributed to the fact that these compounds produce no known side effects to wildlife which can often found with older technologies.
Sonaki makes a pretty good unit (Ive used and tested it) if youre interested in getting the hand held type for your shower. If not, there is an alternative available.
Its called the Vitashower SF-1 Vitamin C Shower Filter. Its based on similar technology and performs as well or better than the Sonaki version. Plus, it only costs $39.95 + shipping and lasts a heck of a lot longer.
We buy our Vitashower filters here: http://www.ronin-online.com
They seem to have the most comprehensive info available and you can even call and speak to a live person before you make a purchase.
I've used this shower filter for over a year now. I've also had the opportunity to test this shower filter with a digital chlorine meter to see if it could live up to the hype. Put simply, it works and does exactly what it's supposed to do. I found it to be effective at removing over 99% of free residual chlorine from my shower water.
I encourage each of you to do your own research about this shower filter. And yes, calling it a shower filter would be accurate. Instead of relying on a physical media to filter chlorine it simply uses a chemical filter to achieve the same results with much better results, IMO.
Or better yet, just buy one and try it out yourself. My wife absolutely refuses to take a shower without our Vitashower anymore.
I recently concluded a head-to-head comparison of the top 10 chlorine shower filters on the market today. Using a digital chlorine meter and the shower in my master bath, I installed and tested each of the shower filters for their chlorine removal effectiveness.
Shoot me an email at reviewguy@comast.net if you would like more info. I'm always happy to help someone cut through the BS and hype and get something that actually works as advertised.
Dont be so quick to dismiss this shower filter. You will be pleasantly surprised how well it works after the first use.
