Xbox 360 @ E3 - The booth, man, the booth
The ladies at the Xbox 360 booth were kind enough to give us a bit of an impromptu tour of the gargantuan Xbox 360 booth at E3 today. Even though we weren't able to pin one of their consoles down long enough to get some shots from out behind glass, at least they were finally able to tempt us to bust a few out of their offices Mission: Impossible style. 'Spect that soon.
The 360 demos in the press section were being run off you-know-whats.

*sigh* Pay attention Bueller...
The XBox 360 does *not* have 3 separate PowerPC processors.
It has a single processor with 3 cores.
Cooling requirements in this configuration are not as high as for 3 separate CPUs.
I love how it irks the sheep that M$ rips off Apple's ideas all the time. I love when people try to say that the G5 could be a PC (it's not), or that it's running a ported version of Windows (could be true).
Say what you will, but M$ openly admits they were inspired by the iPod, they use the G5 for testing and for demos at E3, and don't get me started about how they constantly update their operating system to be more like Mac. Why do they do this? Because they understand that Macs rule!
It's not that PCs suck, obviously they don't or they wouldn't have such a strong market share. Then again, NASCAR is the #1 spectator sport in America and everyone thought we should fight Iraq for what Bin Laden did (who is Saudi and lives no where near Iraq). A good slight of hand has fooled many an American. Don't tell this to the sheep though, they deny it emphatically. Also remember, fundamentalists often turn violent when you make a good point.
BTW, did anyone else notice the comment instructions refer to the depricated form of the "br" tag?
Microsoft doesn't manufacture PCs, they create, steal, what have you, software for PCs and some hardware. They also develop some software for Apples. They essentially lock out competition in order to make additional money.
Apple manufactures hardware and software that essentially locks other developers/hardware manufactures out of their environment without complete control over what their product is doing and being paid.
Wow, they sound a lot alike.
In regards to the comment made by ozone: "The big question is not 'when are we going to see Windows on mac' but 'when are we going to see decent games on mac?'
I think a better question is "When are we going to see a Mac user that doesn't remind us of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons?
Somone said a MacWindows now thats just stupid.....apple would never sighn on to microsoft that would make them just suck.
Microsoft is useing PPC that go to show that aperently its better technolagy if they are having to use their competitors...hahahaha they are going to lose as much money on this sytem as they did with the xbox because people will buy the xbox 360 and just turn it into a cheap Mac machine.....like they did with linux on the xbox
You guys are degrading into a pointless OS war.
Let the boys at M$ do what they want. As long as I can hack the xbox and put my nintendo games on it I'm happy. Let it run Win, Mac-OS, or linux, whatever.
Though, I'd be the happiest with Linux...
The real question is: Why did the make the controller look so gay?
hey guy!!!! and this is only to those who truly Know the answer.............the Question is does Xbox 360 have 3 CPU? as far as I know it's 1 CPU with 3 core, correct me if I'm wrong cause I am betting money with this one guy and hope to get answer ASAP........thanks!
The dual G5's - the 2.5's & the dual 2.7's are water cooled. They do actually have a radiator. It certainly isn't hype!? But in Apple's normal quiet style - they don't boast about it.
Wow this has just turned into a MS attack, i think i might have to even the scales a bit. Firstly that last comment is just amusing, Apple's quiet style??? LMAO how often do u see a MS ad on tv? almost never. Now, how often do u see an ipod ad on tv? Pretty mutch every break has one. Ok now thats out of the way, i admit OS X is a clean fast operating system, im not stupid, i give credit where credit is due. However most of its speed and reliability is down to the fact that u can only run it on particular hardware and that such a small ammount of unofficial software ever really gets installed on them. Its the same philosophy used by console makers, they can achieve mutch higher performance with lower specs coz they only have to develope the software for one system. Secondly OS X is pretty cheap so u buy a mac u are getting ripped coz the only good part of it is cheap whereas the overall system is far more expensive than an equivilant pc. I know what ur thinking all u mac fanboys "but the mac runs so mutch better than Windows does on pc's" Ok yeah it runs faster but in terms of actaul power of use it would be ludicrous to say that it is more powerful. Also recent test have been done and they show that the new OS X beta which has been hacked to run on intel pc's runs nearly twice as fast as it does on a mac. You can ultimately do pretty mutch anything you want on a pc, you just need to find the software, which is almost never available on macs. Basically if you want a computer that u can make ur own instead of being told what you want by some company who makes their stuff LOOK apealing to idiots with a lot of money you buy a pc with windows or prefferably linux as ur OS. Ill make it simple for you guys Computer litterate = linux, Intermediate = Windows, oooh pretty colours = Mac. I mean you just need to take a look at the ipod users, they basically have 2 groups, people who dont bother looking further than the firts shiny white thing they see and chavs who get it stuck in their head that theyre the best mp3 player coz they look nice. I mean the IRiver had the same functionality as the just released ipod has but over a year ago. Im basically all for the little guy, thats why i like linux but when it comes to a competition between mac and microsoft i would still have to buy windows coz i like being able to do what i want and im not rediculously rich. Basically times have changed, MS used to be the evil guys with mac the little guys who are just trying to get in on the market. But now macs are so rediculously overpriced for a "cool design" with no content and are in the end just conning the end user.
Thank you and goodnight.
Ooh no replies, guess no one can really think of a comeback to an intelligent post, oh and theyre using G5's coz they are the original debug kits b4 they started using ones that actually resembled the xbox and all the mac software on them is gone so anyone who thinks that MS have "seen the light" and gone for macs is a retard.
I'm not sure why I haven't seen enough intelligent posts to list on one hand, but I thought I should let you know...
The PPC processor is not, and never was MAC. The PPC is manufactured by IBM. (Microsoft and Apple are BOTH corporate partners with IBM)
The 360 runs an evolved version of the stripped-down NT from X-Box.
In future, the tri-core PPC will be used to run Debian, Linux, and yes, because Mac's Tiger is yet in the UNIX family, it may be possible to emulate Mac's OS on the XBox360.
Because none of these OS's are composed to run natively on triple-threaded hardware in a memory sharing environment, none of these will run at speeds effective or adventageous for gaming or workstation graphics, etc.
If someone can, with knowledge of the 360's hardware (please help Microsoft employees!) discover a way to incorporate a separate GPU or graphic output and dedicate memory to the MBoard, these factors could change.
This could happen through a mod-chip that interfaces the MBoard in a manner that would allow PCI communication, and of course a BIOS would likely have to be configured from scratch for the boot and integration.
Any one interested in helping?
