These are all first generation games. The developers are probably not even close to tapping all of this power (I'd wonder if they're even using more than one of the cores of the processor currently).

Running OSX on an Xbox 360 would certainly make the Mac Mini look quaint, except for that Xbox 360's memory probably isn't expandible.

Anyway, power and features are that important in who will sell the most systems. GAMES are what is important. PS2 had a headstart, Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo (before Xbox) and Metal Gear among other exclusive titles. Xbox, although it was more powerful, was much later than PS2 and did not have many MUST HAVE exclusive games (pretty much just Halo). Xbox 360 right now will have the headstart, they will have Halo, Quake 4 (i'm guessing Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 will also be available soon). If they can grab and develop some more exclusive MUST HAVE games they will put a big dent in Playstation's marketshare.

One thing that I've heard plenty about from Xbox and not so much from Playstation is 'media center' features. The media center extender features seem like a nice bonus on the Xbox. If they are implemented well enough, it might even compell me to setup Windows MCE on my desktop so I can record tv shows to watch on my Xbox. And ontop of that, Ballmer is talking about IPTV support on Xbox 360. Xbox 360 really might be the entertainment hub so many have promised but so few have delivered. I really hope Microsoft manages to get HD-DVD in the Xbox 360, but even if they don't I won't mind too much. I hate to sound like a cliche, but I think DVD-DL should be more than enough storage for most games for this generation. Anyone who can even afford an HD set, should be serious enough about it to get a dedicated HD movie player.

I will definately be picking up an Xbox 360 this November.

Cameron

Comments on

I was at E3 today, and stumbled across that demo box in the last photo. The G5 uses Heatpipes to transfer heat from the processor heatsink to other ares of the case so it can radiate better. Heatpipes are being used the in the 360 aswell. The reason they are refering to this as 'water-cooling' is because the pipes are filled with water. There are no pump, radiators, or resevoirs involved. They just say they are watercooled to get people's glands going.

pineapples10

Comments on

The Ourcolony video says it has water cooling.

Porting Osx to Xbox 360 has one major problem which is pretty impossible to fix in a closed source OS. From what I've read Microsoft is forcing most all 360 games to interacte with Xbox Live which means it will maintain an internet connection and be able to monitor activity/mods on the system. Any serious modding of this device may completley disable the gaming capabilities of the device. It will take some time for the community to inteligently crack this open. But it will happen. M$ probably learned more about what people want from the new device from the XBMC / modding community so I would hope that most of those features are supported out of the box.

Andy

Comments on

Buy a couple hundred Apples to sell a couple million Xbox 360s and a couple million games. Sceanrio b) is that they will lowball this Xmas to try to build up a mass market straight away but my guess since they probably can't make enough and it'll be a sellout, scenario a is much more likely though Ms basically wants to make money fom selling games and the online fee you pay each month - that's what they really want.

BTW, the designer of the ipod did NOT design the XBox 360. Jonathan Ivie is an Apple employee - what MS said is that they were ispired by the ipod but of course, being MS, they aimed for the ipod and ended up with Disney's Mickey Mouse VCR from 3 years ago. but fanboys who are using pizza boxes as tables and furniture found by the railroad tracks do not care.

jbelkin
