(companies like Activision, and Square(uni or wuteva they called now)soft give bigg money to use their patented UMD design.) meaning that they will not get many investments if the companies that invest in their system see that their is a large population percentage using their own software on the PSP's, without use of their tardemarked games. As for the thought of them selling a Homebrew CD... thats just retarded... they are going to loose on deals with their affeliates if people start buying PSP's for their own software, simply beacause less people will be interrested in paying for commercial games. to make this simpler (for those who are slow enough to go backwards.) If you owned a company that mass produced games, you walk into te confrence room to find out that people are using their own software on the system you are investing in... huh? you process that for a bit and think... they can make their own software... sooner or later (with the growing population of the system, and developers) graphics eccelaration will be possible, and along with that... their goes the need for my software... (back to the real world now) would you be happy knowing that the system you are making games for, already support GPL'd (sorta speak) software, and a large amount of people are buying the system to use their own (free) software? (I figure you wont like this unless you are a complete idiot, in witch case, Right on!) In exchange sony will loose money through investers, investors wont like it, and PSP, is GONE... I love homebrew applications ,(till my freind updated my psp) But the only way to get it plublicized is for it to be hacked and the exploit to be on an unknown site (so sony wont find it) maybe an FTP with a password and sum encryption (send the decryptor through E-mail?) because as soon as the exploit goes public, sony has its own set of talking monkeys sitting on tables debuggin and cracking "OUR" exploits. At startup, choose what version firmware to emulate before *ANY* other code executes. So, eventually there will be a menu you'll see everytime you start the PSP saying "1.0,1.50,1.51,1.52,etc". Sony can't do anything about that if done correctly. Mimic the kernel memory exactly, and that'll be the end of any Sony protection.. because they can't defend against this without making *major* changes(i.e. hardware) - and those kind of changes will probably cause some compatibility issue somewhere.
Remember back in the day Sony made a special Playstation game called Polporous or something that was the first anti-mod chip game. But, the game didn't work on 1st-generation PSXs and Sony had to recall the game.

So yeah, Mutli-boot OS for PSP is the future. You'll have like n-number of EBOOT.PBPs on your memstick at all times to switch firmware versions.

Shadow-Me-Twice

Comments on PSP homebrews on firmware 1.50?

full-speed SNES/NES/Gensis emulation will get me to buy a PSP, that's for sure. That way, a user can buy the UMD, create their homebrew apps and run away with it. Take Tivo for instance. They don't really officially support the hacking world on their equipment, but they sure do support the community in their own little way. It only makes sense to me that Sony allow this to happen. If they did, in some format, they would dominate the market.

Just my .02

WebPimp - http://www.joystickwidow.com

WebPimp

Comments on PSP homebrews on firmware 1.50?

Some sony reps said that they're looking at a dev kit for education/hobby use, to come out after the main release waves are all done.
