Nokia 6230i review
Mobile Burn has a review of the 6230i, Nokia's semi-recently updated version of the much-loved 6230 which keeps the Bluetooth and an MMC memory card slot but then slightly improves almost everything else: upping the camera to 1.3 megapixels (from VGA), the display to 208 x 208 pixels (from 128 x 128), the internal memory to 32MB (from just 7MB) and adding support for EDGE. Translation: if you like the 6230, you're going to probably love the 6230i. Except for the sort of sucky keypad, Mobile Burn's reviewer wasn't so hot on it.

FIRST! The design is so outdated.
Nice. I like the simple design.
the design is modern, i prefer it over the clam-shell rubbish
simpled that design is a basic design that flows well, it's not outdated. I prefer a Bar style to a flip style since i feel flip style sucks.
I loved the keypad on the 6230, even though Mobile Burn hated that one, too. I thought it was perfect. Michael didn't like that you could wiggle them. I couldn't care less - they weren't loose in normal usage, and looked and felt great, IMO. My only complaint was the difficulty in pressing the d-pad down to select something, but they seem to have specifically addressed that in this revision.
Design sucks, keypad sucks. Lots of features but the seriously dated look makes me wait another 6-12 months before replacing the 6100.
Have to agree with #5, the D pad is a little finicky on mine. I'm glad they fixed that. I hadn't noticed the wiggle in the keypad before. It doesn't bother me, but I don't use SMS. The reviewer said it bothered him particularly when texting.
WRT the design, it looks like a Nokia bar phone. Reasonably small, comfortable in the hand, functional, sturdy. If you don't like flip phones, like me, it is a great design.
One of the nicest phones made yet. But when can we expect this particular model with the 850 band?
I love mine. I fixed the D-pad issue by putting a tiny square of tape over the bubble switch underneath the key. It raises the key by 1 mm or so, just enough to give good positive response to the center of the key. I text frequently, and I have never noticed the keypad to slip.
I don't like flip phones, and I cannot stand to have a protruding antenna. If I could figure out a cheap way to upgrade to the 6230i from my 6230b, I would do it in a heartbeat.
I've heard an 850 model is supposedly due this 3Q.
so when's this coming to america? cingular only seems to have been carrying the regular 6230 for a few months now. what gives?
I absolutely love the 6230. In fact, my previous phone was a 3310, which I felt was a perfect phone, in that it had no glaring faults. It wasn't until the 6230 came out that I felt that this phone also was prety much perfect. Feature wise it had everything I wanted. I would buy a 6230i in a snap, but I promised myself I wouldn't buy a new phone until a decent MP3 phone comes out. The N91 looks like ass, so I think I'll wait.
the directional pad is hard to use, the rest of the keypad isn't so bad. also, the original 6230 had edge, so that part isn't new.
I absolutely love my 6230. I have been using this phone for a month now and can honestly say that no other phone can touch it for the price. It has more features then overhyped RAZR, in fact I can not name any phone that can be had for under $100 and can match 6230 in feature department. Aside from extras, the phone sports a fantastic battery life, easily unlockable (great for world travelers like me) and highly customizable. Extra accessories are plenntiful and cheap.
This brand new cell phone is wonderfull, portable and perfoms excellent job that any mobile phone does. I hope every one would like to have one. I am also willing to have one within two months. Thanks for the company that manufactured this cell phone.
has anybody got a problem with the 6230i,im on my second phone and its got the same problem.
that is when your talking you can hear yourself echoing back through the speaker?and sounds like your in a bucket
This phone is outstnading!! I've have it for about a mounth and it's great !! Well the the design is not something new, but what the f*** the phone is great! It has everything that I needed from radio to MP3 player the camera is not to bad actually is great! Nokia says that 6230i can support max.512mb MMC I've tried with 2GB MMC and guess what the phone worked perfect - ( I just use the MP3 player and the camera nothing else)
vampire network are you having any troubles with the 2gig card?
email me and let me know... thanks
Have just bought a Nokia 6230i and everything seemed fine until I came to put the back cover on once the SIM and MMC had been installed. The back cover clashes with the front cover which means that at the top of the phone the covers do not fit together and there is a gap! In other words, the locking method, (the bits of plastic that stick out of the cover to lock it in) bump into each other at the top, which makes the back cover slightly loose. The back cover is a nightmare to get off as you have to 'gently pull it away' says Nokia, which means pull it till it feels like it will break.
Anyway, I'm going to try and take it back to the shop tonight and see what they say.
Has anyone had this problem, or finds the back cover hard to remove? I'll try to let you know what the shop says.
Just bought 6230i. NOT HAPPY.The dictaphone, voice recorder has no volume control. The voice is SO SILENT. I recorded a song that was coming on the TV and was FED UP with the quality of voice. IT SUCKS. When is Nokia going to get a good phone with one hour good dictaphone qualities? I wanted to record my conversation with my girlfriend and it was not posssible. Feel like being cheated. The video also records voice so SILENTLY.
I am now on my 3rd 6230i and still I have a problem with the screen locking up can anyone confirm that they have this problem
very good phone mines on o2 and dosent seem to be too bad "The video also records voice so SILENTLY" one thing to say to that BULL**** its loud as anything shure the quality is amr 12.2kbps but it works and its definitely very loud, hey VampireNetwork guy erm did you fill the 2 gig up to test if all the files would play/open????
I just got this phone. Very pleased with it except for the screen keeps going white for a couple of seconds and then resetting itself. This is most common after attempting to play an mp3. Seems to happen every other time. Does anyone else have this problem?
thanks
