What we're watching and why:

There's nothing I can think of more beautiful on HDTV than beaches and shorelines. In "America's Best Beaches 2005," Discovery-HD tonight uses experts from Conde Nast, USA Today and Fodor's to pick the best family beach, best romantic beach and the best all around beach, among others. Our cousin blogs, Luxist and Gadling, recently wrote about the nation's best beaches. Both were reporting on the coastal scientist Dr. Beach's annual list, which this year featured Fort De Soto Park-North Beach in St Petersburg, Fla., at the top. You'll have to watch the Discovery-HD show to find out which beach they pick. You can catch it at 8 and 11 p.m.
