My brother has a DS and I have a PSP, and I don't know why he'd want it. My PSP can play MP3 and AAC, MPEG-2 video that I get from my computer (Adult Swim whenever I want!), a built in internet browser that's surprisingly fast, and it has amazing games. Take a look at "Need For Speed: Rivals" for the PSP and then "Need for Speed Underground 2" on the DS. This clearly shows the differences between the two machines capabilities. The DS has games (although only a few) that are fun to just pick up and play for 10 minutes (isn't that what a handheld game system is for?). My DS or SP goes everywhere with me, and the PSP gathers dust. Other than embedded hacking, the primary use of both systems is as video players. The PSP despite the lovely display loses out most of the time because of its limited battery life, fragility, cost, and the ruinous cost of Memory Sticks (1GB costs as much as a DS). The DS on the other hand with its solid state construction and clamshell configuration is far more rugged, its battery life is spectacular. At present I prefer the Play Yan for video particularly with the new firmware update, but the M3 is interesting if it can use both screens and has comparible playback to the play yan.

The decisive advantage of the DS over the PSP is the cost of SD over MS flash modules and the size of the associated video files. Using a cheap 1 GB sd card I can store 5+ hours of video for the play yan and have the battery life to view it.

monopole

Comments on

Well.

I own both systems, but would buy a product like this to breathe a little more life into my DS. I tend to play the games I have on the PSP more, and watch MST3K episodes on the go. How is this a dicussion without some disagreement? The PSP is the perfect subject to bring into this discussion because it has similar functions to the product. In fact that's the ONLY way running DS roms/homebrew can be done at current, the DS slot has yet to be completely cracked.

If your main concern is media (music, movies) and you bought a GBAMP 1 or 2, don't feel too bad, they work perfectly fine on the DS. This just gives you a slightly higher screen resolution in exchange for adding more bulk (the Passkey) in the DS slot. The selling point of this thing is it handles emulation and media all in one package. I'm not interested in the emulation of games I can buy (I prefer legal methods), but classic stuff like the NES, SNES, and GBC? That would be awesome, and the M3 website claims that they do it. It sounds a little too good to be true, though, guess we'll see when it comes out. I'll definitely be following this gadget, it looks awesome.
