I don't see how an LCD screen is going to help anybody either - it just forces you to take your eyes off the screen. Getting rid of the 10-key on the keyboard not only puts the mouse closer to the keyboard and the right hand (thus, greatly reducing RSI), it saves tremendous desk space. If getting rid of the 10-key is a problem for some people, make keyboards like the old 84-key keyboards where the 10-key and directional arrows are integrated. You don't have to use it if you still need the keys available.

Bad:
Seems the media keys do not by default work right off. Winamp file name and progress info display fine on the LCD, but the media buttons will not control it although it says it does in the settings (had winamp 5.0pro and upgraded to 5.1 pro, no change). The volume does not control the windows volume by default either. Also does not control Windows media player as it says it does in settings. (An issue with this? contact your media player's support not Logitech.)
Button setup takes a bit to get used to. Most keyboards your left hand is close to the edge of the left, but now it's ~1/5th the way on, have to get used to putting your hand closer.
LCD does not show game stats as advertised and does not have any help in the Help file or Logitech site.

I understand it is a brand new product, but having issues right out of the box?... not floating too well with me. They can't exactly latch into the in-game memory and read out your ammo values dynamically.

So far, there really isn't any game support, but that will grow with time. They did say that there will be an SDK, though whether it will be publicly available, I am not sure. I certainly hope so!

As for the media player compatabilty... I plugged in my Zboard and it didn't magically support Winamp, but I easily set up the Winamp global hotkeys to use the keypresses from the Zboard and it worked fine. I think a lot of people seem to expect a keyboard to magically create support from other applications, which is sometimes possible, and sometimes not. With respect to an LCD like this, it's not possible (for the most part) without some kind of game developer support. Hopefully we get plenty!

schmads

Comments on

I bought this keyboard and it rocks!
