Updated HDMI specification available

HDMI

The latest HDMI spec revision is out, which brings us to version 1.2. HDMI or High Definition Multimedia Interface is currently the highest quality connection for digital audio and video. DVI, by contrast, is for digital video only.

Some of the updated specification features include support for Super Audio CDs (SACD), usage of HDMI type A connectors for PCs and support for lower voltage displays in the future. Over 250 vendors comprising 470 different HDMI products are backers of the HDMI standard. We've discussed cables and connections in the past, but wanted to reiterate. Due to manufacturing support and copy-protection issues, we recommend any new HDTV purchases that you make have at least one HDMI jack.
