You knew it was only a matter of time — all gadgets must succumb to
dissection sooner or later. It didn't

what is the point of these dissections? Their educational value is 0. This isn't something like a steam engine which is interesting to take apart.

Must be someone with some extra money to burn,

#1 Its interesting because now we know exactly which chips we are programming for when we port ipodlinux.
Guido @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
#3: It's at the bottom so that you can hang it from your neck and pick it up for controlling it in the right orientation (if it's head down when hung, it's in the correct position when you grab it to use the wheel).

NIce take appart. Amazing how small the 4gb chip is. Imagine how many you could fit inside a 3,5 HDD Volume. Finally silent MASS storage !

#3 and #4: didn't your teachers ever teach you about the question mark? Both of your initial sentences need to be ended by question marks, as they are questions. Please learn some grammar.

I wondered why the text made no sense at all, until I noticed it was translated.
Bill @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
with the realitive simplicity of ram removal, I'm betting there will be some nano's out there with more than 4gb of storage in the coming weeks. All I want to know is where I can order the 8gb kit... and when apple will ship my unit.
NekoTsukimi @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
All those poor young gadgets violated for the sake of knowledge. Think of the poor creatures next time you want to put up nekkid images of them. It could count as... kiddy pr0n!!!!! So young... So young!!!!
asher @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
I hear there are contries that allow a full range of testing on these while they're still alive. They say the testing is for the medical and cosmetic industries but the horror!
damien morton @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
And why exactly did Apple create the nano, which looks and functions like a dream, while allowing Motorola to create the ROKR, which looks and functions like ass.
A apple-designed phone would be the top selling phone in the world, almost overnight.
sanjose @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
Every great device has to be explored and ipod nano is no exception in that...BTW who is providing the chipset for IPOD nano??
Alex @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
#1 I think that people take these kinds of things apart for the intrinsic value of taking it apart. "It's there and it's possible, so why not?" To an electrical engineer this piece of hardware just looks elegant taken apart.
#10 I love the idea of an 8Gb flash drive iPod but the problem is that Samsung already gave Apple a righteous deal on those current 2/4 Gb drives. A bigger drive would mean a bigger price tag that would end up on the consumer end of the spectrum. But you're right I'm sure someone will hack and mod their Nano to give the extra space.
Well said #11, I like that. :)
And finally #13, why does any company make ay product? To make money in our glorious capitalistic economy that's why. iPod is going to make money off the ROKR just because of the trademark/copywrite on the name iTunes. They are going to get a ton money off of something that they really didn't have too much to do with in the first place. So what if it's not the top-selling phone in the world (or the US for that matter)? It's not like Apple really care about the cell phone community.

>>and when apple will ship my unit.
I picked my black 4gb yesterday at a local Apple Store here in Seattle. They got in about 400 units yesterday. They were selling fast.
I LOVE this thing. It's so small, thin and easily readable. Oh, and it sounds great too!
Eric @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
#3 probably because the screen is at the top and the
depth seems insufficient to place a headphone jack behind it.
Jen @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
lamest title for an article ever
Greg @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
#4 wtf?
Stoneman @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
#4 doesn't seem to have a budget for intelligence, either. What a stupid fool.
Go beg on the street, MONICA.
