I'm this close to buying, but I have one thing keeping me from doing it. The play button is located stupidly. I have a TiVo. I cannot get used to another remote after having the Play/Pause button right there undere my thumb. Why the hell can't remote makers design their remotes as intuitively as TiVo does? WTF?

At least it's better placed than all the other remotes I've seen that tout TiVo controls. Their Play button is at the freaking BOTTOM OF THE REMOTE! WTF you loser remote makers?

Sheesh. It really shouldn't be this hard.

But I'll probably buy it. I really REALLY want one single remote to replace the half dozen remotes I have to use for my TV, TiVo, PS2, Xbox, DVD Recorder, VCR, Stereo...

Jason Anderson

Comments on Logitech Harmony 520 reviewed

Looks really cool, but i hate the idea of even approaching a walmart, let alone spend any cash there. blech.

morgan

Comments on Logitech Harmony 520 reviewed

Three beefs:

1) I prefer the peanut shape. My Tivo remote has what I would call perfect ergonomics. Not good, not great, but perfect.

2) Button placement is screwy for a Tivo user. The play/rewind/forward/pause keys aren't laid out intuitively, and there's no good provision for an "instant replay" and "30-second skip" button nearby, although I suppose you could cannibalize the forward/reverse skip buttons. Even then, that's a lot of thumb gymnastics.

3) If it's true you have to buy it at Walmart, that's a deal breaker for me. I refuse to shop at Walmart. I don't care how good/cheap it is, I won't give them a penny.

Chris K

Comments on Logitech Harmony 520 reviewed

The 30-second skip is the same place it is on the native Tivo controller, the skip forward, skip back buttons. Yes the layout is clumsy for me too, but I suspect the advantage of not having to juggle 3 remotes will ease my pain greatly. And it feels *really* good in the hand, it is balanced like a throwing knife, with most of the weight in the part you hold in your hand. Buy it, go on, you know you want to:)

aiiee

Comments on Logitech Harmony 520 reviewed

Chris K, you must be me. That's EXACTLY what I would have typed.

Except that I am so tempted, I would ALMOST break my vow to never touch a Wal-Mart just to get one of these. Almost I said. Not quite. I would buy it on Buy.com as people have mentioned, but can't find it anywhere on that site. Is there anywhere else to get one??

In fact, I can't even find it on Walmart.com either. Why this is here I don't know. Hopefully, you will program the remote only each time you change your system.
Many of the soft keys for the TV and DVD did nothing or something not quite right.
Bottom line:
It made my system easier to use and went 90% of the way with little effort.
I don't know if I am going to bother with the other 10%, I'm happy!

Ray

Comments on Logitech Harmony 520 reviewed

Kris K, You can buy it at Target also that I know and I'm sure it'll end up at dozens of online remote retailers, Best Buy etc. I don't see why a store that you don't like selling a product you want would be a deal breaker?
