I've seen stories of people dropping $200 into it just to win a $25 lobster dinner.

There are also machines in japan that let you try to catch a goldfish. If you can scoop one up with the joystick, the game bags it for you and you can take it home. We tested a model here in the states, the kids broke into the game and stole all the goldfish.
