It's officially legal to chip your PlayStation in Australia

Not that we expect it to even come close to setting precedent in the US, but if you didn't already hear, Sony lost its anti-modchipping case in Australia. Yup, the ruling handed down stated that circumventing anti-disc backup/copy/extra-regional countermeasures just ain't no thing down under. We're sure Sony isn't exactly happy about this, but for a nation with a population comparable to that of the New York metro area, we have a feeling they'll be more interested in kissing the shiny leather boot of the DMCA a few more times a day rather than reeling too long over this one.
