Make a fortune in the WiFi biz - not!

transnet

We've seen some fishy pitches on late night TV, but the ones suggesting that you can make a fortune by setting up pay-to-play WiFi kiosks in neighborhood coffee shops, laundromats and pet stores (or something like that), seemed particularly shady. Turns out the FTC agrees, and has shut down two Florida companies, Transnet Wireless and Nationwide Cyber Systems. The companies charged customers as much as $15,000 per kiosk, and claimed that the kiosks could return as much as $2,000 per month in revenue. However, the companies often didn't even deliver the kiosks, and couldn't back up any of their claims about potential earnings. Of course, this doesn't mean there's no way to make a fortune in paid WiFi. All you need is a captive market and the muscle to keep out all competitors. Then, in the words of the pitchmen, you can just sit back and watch the cash roll in.
