MPEG-4 and 1080P, like peanut butter and chocolate

And/or other things that go well together. Since we know you just haven't gotten enough MPEG-4 updates recently, here's a couple more. The guys over at UltimateAV mentioned that they've seen "very impressive" demonstrations of 1080p content compressed that way, however i'm not sure if they meant they had seen it done with DirecTV's equipment or in other demonstrations; check for yourself my tired eyes may have misread.

Also, and possibly related, IndigoVision announced their release of the first licensable MPEG-4 codec capable of 1080p resolutions. The Mainstream High Definition MPEG-4 Video Codec is also capable of scaling to support various devices for playback like phones, PDA's and digital cameras. How quickly this means devices that record and display video at 1080p resolutions natively using IndigoVision's system-on-a-chip will be widely available remains to be seen however.
