Flybook V3 subnotebook with swiveling touchscreen display
We haven't had a look at the upcoming
Flybook V3 subnotebook from Taiwan's Dialogue, but if it's anything like the company's
earlier models, we suspect they've
got a winner on their hands. The V3 is said to include an 8.9-inch touchscreen at 1024x600, and an Intel M at 1.1 GHz.
Other specs include 512MB RAM standard and hard drives running from 20GB to 100GB, along with WiFi and Bluetooth. The
V3 will also include one of our favorite Flybook features: its swiveling screen (pictured here on the A33). The
V3 will be available either XP Home or Pro, or with XP Tablet Edition — something of a coup for Flybook, since previous
models didn't meet Microsoft's strict specs for that OS. However, Microsoft has relaxed its standards a bit (not a bad
move; after all, tablets aren't exactly flying out the door), enabling companies like Dialog to include the OS as an
option.

When or where will I be able to buy one of these? Fujitsu has one as well but it's unclear where I can buy one.
that looks sweet, any idea how much it costs?
Oh, so pretty!
For the person looking for outlets, I bought an import Sharp sub-notebook through Dynamism at a fair price. Also Fujistu sells many, but not all, of their small notebooks via their US website.
You will probably be able to purchase one here
DIALOGUE USA

I browsed the site but couldn't even figure how much the old model was. Oh well. Just waiting for the V3 to come out. Sounds like a winner!!!

Nice!
from what i understand, there are two outlets here in the States. Go to myflybook.com for the pricing (of the old model). It also seems to be rumored (on handtops.com) that Dialogue is waiting for their current model (the a33 with the Transmeta chip) to sell out before introing the new model (the v33 with Intel). I have not purchased one, but am very interested when the new product comes out (if I can pull the change together) :)
Nice but for the fact that a Pentium M 1.1ghz is sooooo 1Q2005 instead of 4Q2005.
"swiveling touchscreen display"
In other words, a tablet.
Too bad this has a passive touchscreen like the Fujitsu. When will we be able to get an active digitizer on a small laptop and not have it be the $2000+ Motion Computing LS800?

$2145 was the cheapest I could find the current a33 model for. I have little doubt that the v33 will be in the same price range.
Compare it to this:

It is available and less pain on your wallet.
I have one and it is awesome.
And no, I am not affiliated with Fujitsu in any form :-)
Sub-notebooks are getting be affordable. At that Fujitsu shop it costs about the same as a normal note with a bit higher specs.
I saw one of the last edition of Flybooks in service at the illy showroom in NYC (Soho?). They were very nice -- but the price is out of control.
These things are bought by people who dont have to ask the price.
Let's hope Dialogue improve their after-sales for this one.
I bought an original Flybook directly from their stand at Computex in 2004, and had no problems with it until the internal fan got extremely rattly. This got louder and prompted me to email them - many times in total. I tried calling, but unfortunately don't speak Chinese. All I wanted to know was whether this was normal (I still don't know), and how to get inside and fix it - or whether a local distributor could repair it for me.
The internal drive eventually went into meltdown and died (conveniently whilst on holiday). I eventually gave up on them, located the part at an electronics store, and after much head scratching took the beast apart and replaced the fan (including some resoldering), and the hard drive. I'm a little ham fisted, and due to Dialogues lack of response, had resolved to buy a VAIO if my repair attempt went norks-up. I got lucky, and the machine runs fine again. I really like my Flybook (particularly the touchscreen), but won't be buying another one.
I saw it at Cebit, its incredibly small and soooo cool.. but its very expensive.. about 2000+ was the basic price if I recall correctly.. but i think i was to busy watching the boothbabes doing their dance show... i still got that on video ;)
Why would anyone buy one of these when one could get a Fujitsu 1510D for about $1500 and similar specs
