And by the way, Brian, some people are on Verizon because some people live in Ithaca, NY where Verizon is pretty much the only fully functional service. I am guessing the RAZR will be $249 (maybe $299)... and that is pushing it since it's $199 max from the other carriers... and in most cases free if you buy it from the right place (ie. amazon).

Verizon has one of the best networks on the planet (I'd say it's tops), however, they're known to be cutomer unfriendly when it comes to phones. The RAZR is a nice phone, and as a Verizon customer I will get this phone, but it's really probably a bad investment.

1) The V3 2 will be out shortly for all gsm networks and then cdma cutomers will be the laughing stock of RAZR owners, because they'll have purchased 2 year old technology for the same price as the latest and greatest.

2) Yes Verizon cripples the bluetooth and advance user hate the unified interface, becuase we like to tinker, but at the end of the day, a phone is only as good as it's network, and Verzon has never half steped in that department.

If verizon ever starts moving toward GSM it will be because of hardware support, and I don't see that happening for quite a while if ever.

On top of that, the verizon high-speed data network is the best you can get right now... and the popularity of that will probably rise.

Aside from my verzion phone, I have a t-mobile sidekick 2 I use for email... and I would NEVER want to rely on that service for a phone. I know the sidekick has a fairly lousy internal antenna... but still... the service is spotty and unpredictable. I happen to not care in this case because I only use it for data and one way or another the email goes out within a few mins.

For the GSM RAZR, where OBEX (Object Exchange - think pictures, audio, video, contact info) is enabled, yes, you can sync your phone up with your computer - albeit somewhat in-elegantly... this depends a lot on the Bluetooth drivers and software you have on your computer - to sync up stuff easily Moto sells software that works over USB or Bluetooth for the RAZR, but as I have never used it, I can't offer any info on how well it works; I just use my laptop's Bluetooth to send stuff back and forth. And while I can send all of my contacts or pictures or mp3s to my RAZR easily (and at once), it seems I can only send one contact at a time back from the phone - go figure - but I can retrieve all of the other files at once from my computer... I am pretty sure its a ploy by Moto to sell their software, but I digress...

On the Verizon's RAZR, OBEX is disabled (this was Verizon's choice, not Moto's), and you are forced to use Verizon's network to send yourself any pictures you take, to get ringtones, get backgrounds, etc - all while Verizon gets to charge you for each (aren't they sweet). The only aspect of Bluetooth that they left enabled is support for wireless headsets and handsfree (like for use in certain cars, for ex.). They seem to be more interested in sucking customer's wallets dry. Bluetooth really does not prohibit them from making a killing from GIN- allowing me to send contacts to my PDA or laptop & back again via bluetooth doesn't block ANY GIN functionality that exists. So sure, maybe the picture messaging profits might go down, if EVERYONE I know has a BT cellphone AND I'm willing to wait until I'm within 10 feet of that person to send them the picture... for that Verizon might as well prevent you from showing someone your picture because that cuts into GIN as well.

1. Verizon is the highest-rated carrier by Consumer Reports.

2. Verizon has the lowest percentage of complaints of any national carrier, according to FCC reports (US Cellular has even fewer complaints, but is considered a regional carrier).

From town to town, neighborhood to neighborhood, signal quality can vary. Also, no carrier is free of jerks in the Customer Service department. So, anyone's SUBJECTIVE opinion based on PERSONAL experience may vary from the norm, but as a general rule, Verizon is tops.

BTW, I am not a Verizon stooge. I signed on with Sprint to get a specific phone. Although the carrier quality sucks, the features and quality of the phone makes it a winning choice for me. Does this mean Sprint is NUMBER ONE (RAH RAH RAH!)? No, it was just subjectively the best choice for me.

So everybody, please stop with the infantile posturing and try to raise the level of discourse a notch or two. Thank you!

I need to have three additional lines and my contract with verizon isn't up for 8 more months. So I will either wait for verizon to have the razzor or pay the termination fee to verizon and switch to cingular.

I want the motorola razzor and have found a few online vendors that are giving away the razzor and a bluetooth headset for free for new service with cingular.

I switched from Verizon to TMobile because of the RAZR. Cingular is a non-option in the Twin Cities so when TMobile got the RAZR I switched. I was happy with Verizon but get a better reception most places with TMobile. However, I was using a crappy LG with Verizon so that could have been part of the prob.
