FCC cuts VoIP providers a break

So the FCC pulled a twofer today, first giving us deets on Linksys' new VoIP handset, and now we've gotten word that they won't be taking the hard line with VoIP providers regarding 911 service. Previous FCC dictums had stated that unless service providers were able to provide guaranteed 911 service, including caller ID and location tracking features, customers in non-compliance would be forcibly cut off. Now the FCC has backtracked and will not mandate service terminations on November 28th; rather, providers must stop marketing their services to non-compliant customers at that time. With this new, softer FCC, the next thing you know, they'll be throwing Howard Stern a big old going away gala in December.
