2GB would be plenty of room for video and audio, for me anyways. My smartphone movies weigh in at 120MB for a 90 minute movie... excellent video and audio. I suspect that the same film optimally encoded for Nano playback would weigh in at under 100MB.

Of course if people are going to get dumb and place hi-res, hi-bitrate videos on it, you'd be lucky to get 1 movie.

One, I don't think a lot of people want to be watching video on such a tiny little screen (except for people who download this hack). Think about it...when they equipped the regular model they put emphasis on making the screen larger to be more suitable for video.

Two, Apple wants to give you an incentive to shell out just a few more dollars so you can have the luxury of Video. Someone earlier said it best...a 30gb Video iPod is only $50 more than a 4gb Nano. It's called up-selling. They've been doing it with practically all their model lines. When I originally bought my first iPod (3g 30gb) they did this by providing a case and inline remote to the higher models exclusively.

1) You install Linux on your iPod
2) There's no h.264 or mpeg4 decoding on this thing, you'll have to use a crappy codec most likely, and you'll have to transcode everything (not that different from regular iPod w/ Video...except atleast it can do decent codecs)
3) There's no Video Out support in iPod Linux last I checked, so you can't watch it on a TV. Nor can you pick up any of the shows off of the iTMS (Not that most people care...)

The video playback is actually quite smooth, in fact, i couldn't detect any sort of stutter or lag, and most of the time, the audio synchs just fine (just don't pause or fast forward hehe).

To get this working, do exactly as I say and it will work.

Instuctions for getting video onto a Nano

1. Run the iPod uttility and click restore

2. Download iPod Linux from the page http://www.theplaceforitall.com/linuxnano/

Ignore all the other files they say u need. Just download the main installer.

3. Exratc the Zip file to your desktop (no reason for this, just easyer to access)

4. Run the install WITH your Nano plugged in.

5. UNCKECK the box that says check that says Check Online Updates.

6. Run the install

7. Once it has compleated, open the other folder in the Zip called Put these in the iPod root after install.

8. Copy and paste both files in the folder to the iPod by opening the iPod with disk mode and past the files in to it (not into a folder)

9. Eject the iPod (DO NOT UNPLUG UNTELL THE SCREEN ON THE iPOD GOES TO NORMAL!!!!)

10. If the iPod did not restart, do so by holding the center button and the menu button tell it restarts. Then hold down the rewind key, it should boot up linux.

11. If it has an error, recopy the two files in the folder into the iPod root.

12. If all goes well, linnux should boot and go to a menu that looks like the iPod menue.

13. Go to http://ipodlinux.org/Video_Player and scroll down to where it says 2bbppconv with Front End, Easier Converting, all iPods. Click on the link and down load the app.

14. Launch the app, it will ask u what type of pod u have, type in nano. It will bring up a window, select a video u want to convert. It will ask u were u want to save it. Name it and click save

15. it will ask u what frame rate to save it as, type in 24 and hit enter. if done correctly, alot of text will start scrolling down the cmd prompt.

16. Copy the created video into the iPod's notes folder

17. Eject the iPod.

18. Boot Linux

19. Use the file browser to navigate into the notes folder and select the video.

20. Select the video and enjoy!
