The pictures do not do it's compactness justice. If you complain about the size of this phone, then you complain about the size of any PDA, and therefore are not worthy. This is no toy phone.

If you don't know the benefits of it's power (like the Forbes writer) then you may be better off playing with your little pink camera phone that you got for $50 by signing a 2 year contract. You can customize with new face plates.

On the other hand, if you carry a PDA and a phone, and are competent enough to use both, the 6700 is miles ahead of all expectations. I can remote my home computers from ANYWHERE. Do I really need to say how useful that is? Active Sync's new TCP protocol connection is actually more useful than previous versions because I don't need the USB cable... I don't even need a computer. I sync to my Outlook from ANYWHERE.

Can you say WIRELESS MODEM?

The Keyboard? How could you down QWERTY? If you can't type on that, then either your fingernails are too long, or you can't type period. If either is the case, might I suggest one of the other infinite modes of input, including the onscreen block recognizer, keyboard, letter recognizer, phonepad, and transcriber. Oh wait, isn't there bluetooth? YES, there is! Take $50 and go get yourself a full sized bluetooth keyboard. LOL, I should be a 6700 ad rep. Too bad 90% of America isn't ready for a PDAPhone that is more than a calendar and contact list with dialing capability.

Perhaps you haters will like it more if it came w/ interchangeable faceplates.

The Schizo

Comments on Verizon's XV6700 HTC Apache caught in the wild

I will prefer razr.
http://www.vzwshop.com/razr/

xman

Comments on Verizon's XV6700 HTC Apache caught in the wild

You can't even compare the Razr to this, the Razr has little to no functionality compared to any PDA-phone, especially a crippled Verizon Razr.

Additionally, that Forbes review is pretty much just crap, all of the problems that the writer is commenting on are things related only to Win-Mo and not really the phone. Since it's all software, you can count on eventual updates from Microsoft. And also, who knows when this thing will even land for Verizon? I personally won't be buying one until April when I get my $100 credit towards a new phone, and by then they may have a few fixes already. But man am I excited to finally see and HTC with Verizon badging.

Mike

Comments on Verizon's XV6700 HTC Apache caught in the wild

Hey #17 - Would you think better of the Forbes' review if they thought better of the device?

Hey #20 - So you're saying you (and most any other run of the mill consumer) can easily install a different kind of software on it?

Face it, the software is part of the package. Why MS hasn't released an update yet is beyond me. But their problems are almost solely limited to USB transfers. If Mr. Manes would have tried any of the other multiple connections (Bluetooth, IrDA, miniSD with a USB reader, even WiFi or EVDO with the proper software.), he would have found data transfer and synching to be pretty easy.

Back to the meat of the engadget article, though -- This version is hardware-wise exactly the same as the Sprint phone. It has a different black skin (which I like, since the silver scratches easier than an iPod Nano thrown out of a moving car), and it has different software "features" because of the different carriers. For instance, no dual-radio support at this time (WiFi/voice). The main bad thing I’ve read about this one is that it has horrible battery life. If that pans out to be normal then I won’t get it. I think he needs to stick to writing reviews on retirement destinations. He obviously has no clue, and probably had the phone for 2 days before writing the review.

Most people currently using the Sprint version are very pleased once they get around some of the initials ticks. For instance, right when this phone came out for Sprint, people were furious about battery life until they realized that Wi-Fi seriously killed battery life. Not to mention the extended life battery comes out this month.

As for trying to compare this phone to the Razr, or talking about the VX9800, it is completely and totally different. That would be like someone saying, "hmm, i'm trying to decide between the Leap Frog Learning Laptop or the Dell XPS M170..." Can't even come close to comparing the two.

I just seriously wish I knew when the XV6700 was going to be available. I spoke with my Biz Sales Rep on the 14th, and she said they were anticipating a release either the week of, or the week after Thanksgiving. This is definitely the tightest cell phone/pocket PC EVER. It looks so good I don't know if I should talk on it or it bring it to the club on saturday and make out with it in front of everyone. This thing has it all. I'm activating it tomorrow...so we'll see how the talky talky is then. But for now, I'm just surfing on it via my wireless network.

-Wop "it pays to be a geek!"

Wop

Comments on Verizon's XV6700 HTC Apache caught in the wild

Does anyone KNOW when the XV6700 will be available to biz customers with Verizon??? I spoke with VZW Biz Sales yesterday, and they told me that the XV6700 would be out before Christmas along with a few other releases. This comes after they told me the week before or the week of Thanksgiving back on 11/14.

One guy in HoFo said he called biz support and they told him it would be out immediately following the 12/12 full release of the Razr. This coming after another rep told someone the Razr would be the last 2005 VZW release. Yet someone else in HoFo called, and the rep they spoke to said they had never heard of the device.

I think we'll all find out when it will actually hit market, about 120 seconds after it actually hits the market.
