XM recalls batteries for portable players
If you're currently toting one of the three OEMed
portable XM players, the Delphi MyFi, Pioneer AirWare, or Tao XM2GO, then XM wants to give you a present this holiday season: a
brand spankin' new battery. Turns out they've discovered overheating problems with a few units, and are voluntarily
recalling all the batteries shipped in those players up until recently. If you just got a nifty new XM2GO as a gift,
you can tell fairly easily which one you have: the old batteries are black while the new ones are white.[Via Orbitcast]

First I heard of this, Thanks! I guess the manufacturer is mailing these out "automatically" in hopes no one would notice and/ or eventually forget about it, if one didn't receive theirs. The question I had was why didn't they (XM and/ or manufacturer) provide a web site, similar to Apple or Dell to sign up for a replacement battery. My wife's ibook was part of a battery recall, got on line, pratically she had the battery the next day. Much thanks and appreciation to the crew at Engadget for keeps us up to date!
Well, if you don't have one - they are giving them away for free, service only..

Promo Code:XMAWBBXM6
Code was printed on the Best Buy Insider that was scanned to show the Xbox 360 on the 22nd.. Got my free one!
They are NOT exactly giving them away for free... that promo code is for people who WORK at Best Buy only.... and you should read the terms anyway - nothing is free...
I bought a Pioneer Airware a couple of weeks ago and it actually came with the revised battery already in the box.
However I have to say that if the unit is plugged in on it's base for a while it does still warm up quite a bit.
I do know that the warming up on the base is because of the backlight. Don't worry Deamos, the damn thing won't melt in your hand.
Seriously, finally something that is not have bad.
www.upgradebattery.com is the website
Went to their web page before (www.upgradebattery.com), and read the FAQ one of which said “If you have not yet received your new battery, you should be receiving it soon.”. I really don’t want to wait for THEM to decide to send it, because more than likely I’ll never see it. Oh, well!
As a side note, love the XM radio, I’m spoiled now, definitely like my music and radio shows. If you can afford an XM radio get one, they’re great, just wish per monthly fee was less expensive.
I wish they would bring back a tech channel, like CNET…thank goodness for Podcasts (like TWIT, Engadet and others). I’ve suggested this before, that they have a Tech channel (there certainly is a lot of content out there) I’m sure some of those programs could be adapted to XM…
Thanks everyone!
I have several of the extended batteries -- is this an issue for them, and if so, will I get replacements for them?
I doubt it applies to extended batteries, just the standard ones.
I hope to receive mine soon, because I HAVE noticed excessive heat from mine. :(

I have major issues with XM Radio and their replacement battery. I purchased the radio as a gift prior to Christmas, but didn't set up the account until Dec. 26th. It was only then I was informed I wouldn't be able to use the radio until the replacement battery was sent. That was nearly a month ago, and now the call center I was directed to by XM Radio informs me that Motorola (the battery manufacturer) will not inform them of when the replacements will be sent out, except to say it will be "several weeks." The call center won't give out contact info for Motorola, and XM gives you the runaround. This is a major issue.
