Zipper Interactive, developers of the SOCOM franchise, thus securing exclusive rights to the game until
SOCOM has been an integral piece to Sony's online success, and enjoys a rabid fan-base (such as my roommate, but that's another story) - perchance some of the developers might become key players in the building of an online infrastructure to compete with Xbox Live?
