I am a fan yours engadget, but it would be nice if more readers with your postings would be concerned with functionality of devices versus the looks. How shallow we've become when we think it's better for a device to look good than to work good (pardon my paraphrasing of Billy Crystal's "Fernando" character from SNL)

Go to the origami portal and click on the picture to get a LARGE scale one! Look at the display edge on the bottom (looking from the left corner to right corner! It tilts 0.5 - 1.5 degrees down to the right people! C'mon... this is either a good photoshop (with a tel-tale mistake) OR a v.poor screen!!!

All we know is that Microsoft is stringing people along anxiously waiting for the unveiling. Origami MIGHT be an actual device. But it could also simply be a "form-factor awareness campaign" designed to get people thinking about such a device. Vaporware at its finest.

As for this photo, it is a nice-looking prototype but I would be surprised if any real device would end up looking like that. Why? First, it looks a little too retro... as in early-90's retro. Not old enough to look hip, but new enough to look obsolete. Also, the icons for the buttons are not consistent in their style... looks like a cut-n-paste job.

So evidently "YOU" don't know squat about it, but other more, dare I say educated, people evidently do.

That said this is one of two thing: 1) A fake or 2) An early mockup of what the device migth be... I think that we can safely see the resemblence to the Origami units shown in the year old video.

Bottom line is we should know more by the end of this week. I mean, because it would obviously be impossible for Microsoft to whip together a new shell for XP. The current Windows shell would fall flat on its face on a device like this (assuming at least half of what we believe it is for is true...). It would almost be a no brainer for Microsoft to give XP a fresh face, especially since they are announcing this new platform so close to the release of Vista.
Or not, whatever, just an opinion.

it's not gonna be under a pound, it will be running a Centrino,and sadly will not gonna have an all-day battery life(8-12hrs), probably looking at 3-5 hours. Intel is working on a new low-power chip for mobile devices and should be ready next year. Sadly, we will have to wait out a few of the rounds of products and at least until next year before we start seeing the "ULTRA" mobile PC. For now, it will be a Slightly-More-Mobile-Than-A-Laptop PC.
