Got a problem with your audio player's battery
life? We'd put dollars to donuts that you do, so if you don't mind flipping yours over to bake in the sun for a little
while, check out MSI's Mega Player 540. It looks to be the same old 4GB drive-based
Mega Player 540
from before, but they've slapped a solar panel on its posterior so if you can rock it shuffle-style for a little while
and have a decent amount of light, you might be able to eke some more juice out of your player than before. Another
good battery saver? Well, you could try switching to a flash based MP3 player, for one.

"the never stop nature bright," indeed. you go, MSI.

Not a Bad idea...but how many hours of play do you get from a certain duration of charge?
Osiris @ Mar 12th 2006 11:29AM
Well could be useful for when you're sunbathing or something, isn't a bad idea, just not useful for everyone.
I don't flaunt my mp3 player around my neck anyway, in some countries that's just asking to be robbed.
Besides, this looks a little chunky for that purpose anyway...

Might be useful if the solar cell could keep it juiced enough to play. As long as it was in the sun.
I'd soon opt for a remote cell panel that would just plug into a power port on the device, then I could mount the solar cell on the top of my vehicle.

I think this idea has potential, but like stated earlier it isn't practical for most users. Solar energy will get more and more popular, however.
Bill @ Mar 12th 2006 12:31PM
Wouldnt that make it get really hot maybe cause it to overheat???
kerry @ Mar 12th 2006 12:53PM
That is not the posterior side, It is ventral. Posterior is the bottom. Learned that in 7th grade science

"The never stop nature bright, the never end nature power!"
Wow.
And I agree that it'd probably be more effective (and more cost-effective) to just get a flash-based player.

Does it have any limitation for temperature? I mean how will it work if it's very sunny but below -10 C?
I have a bunch of problems with my cellular in winter... So I wonder is this guy meant for somewhere but California :)
Tyler @ Mar 12th 2006 2:45PM
Kerry ~ Posterior means behind. Anterior means front. Older stylings of those words are dorsal for behind and ventral for front, though ventral and dorsal are static while posterior and anterior are dynamic in usage.
Bottom is inferior and top is superior.

Neat! .. I want one of those!..
colin @ Mar 12th 2006 3:21PM
perfect for if i ever find myself crashed stranded on an island in a pacific, especially if i'm constantly having to worry about the others.
StandardAI @ Mar 12th 2006 3:57PM
I can't imagine being able to get more than a couple minutes of extended battery life out of the panel.
Shnugi @ Mar 12th 2006 4:37PM
It would be kind of nice to just leave my MP3 player on the windowsill to charge it.
Echo_ @ Mar 12th 2006 5:47PM
as the user said above it would make more sense to have a plug in solar panel
Terry @ Mar 12th 2006 6:01PM
A even better idea would be to use XsunX's products that are clear solar cells. This way you don't have to turn over your I-POD to charge it. The transparent solar-cells will charge it from the front side.

"Got a problem with your audio player's battery life? We'd put dollars to donuts that you do"
no i dont, i have the cowon x5l with 35 hours of battery with music and 12 with video, no problems here, i charge it about twice a week. plus it can host usb aswell, screw solar!
Flowah @ Mar 12th 2006 11:58PM
lol @ 25+ hours on my 30gig X5L. Battery life FTW!
Derwin @ Mar 13th 2006 12:10AM
im sure it can be done...that is, making a solar-powered battery that plugs into the iPod by a cord and you can clip it to your belt or whatever.
nak @ Mar 13th 2006 3:26AM
4. Might be useful if the solar cell could keep it juiced enough to play. As long as it was in the sun.
I'd soon opt for a remote cell panel that would just plug into a power port on the device, then I could mount the solar cell on the top of my vehicle.
or you could just use a car charger
Gabe @ Mar 13th 2006 5:47AM
I think it' s a good idea, but not quite effective
John @ Mar 13th 2006 11:30AM
Interesting idea.
Would it be more useful if the solar panel was on a phone?
Jeremy @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:55PM
Doesn't seem useful. I mean, it's OKAY. But not useful.
Plus, it's rather big and dull. And the solar chip thing looks ugly.
Kerry, the picture shows both sides. The bottom and top.
