Blu-ray is not a "sony-only" format. This format has been developed by a group of companies. Sony is one of the co-developers of it.

I think the PS3 is being delayed so these other blu-ray players can have a chance to sell before Sony ruins the market for them with the PS3... how do you get other HW manufacturers to make and sell something when you are going to turn around and undercut their pricing by nearly 50%?!?! B - PS3 is delayed so they can strike big around Christmas 2006... isn't it obvious? The X360 won't be so big this Christmas and the PS3 will be that "new thingy" I mentioned earlier.

Realistically, the PS2 did go a fair way with the adoption of DVD, but I doubt the PS3 alone will guarantee Blu-ray's success. Still, I don't see Blu-ray losing to HD-DVD in spite the latter being the "safer" format for the consumer. Idealistically, both formats will end up as VCD/Laserdisc. :P

PS3 may be delayd because of the blu-ray because of the reader to be able to play CD,DVD,PS1,PS2,PS3DVD,PS3BR,and more... (go look for yourself at all the different exact types are).
2. Many people will buy it, and then Sony will find out what kind of problems... kinda like a beta... Sony always does that.
3. MD wasn't a complete flop, actually... In japan, they are still everywhere. And America bought the stuff from them. I doubt they lost too much money at all.
4. Blu-Ray is competing with HD-DVD, which is being pushed by Microsoft. (like, windows vista with support HD-dvd's, jerks)
5. Blu-ray is expected to have a higher kbp/s rate. That will make a difference.... like cds = 7000+, DVDs = 21000+ ...

1) MD is still a viable format that sells about $1,000,000 USD in the states and who knows how much in JP/non-us.
2) The advantages of blu-ray versus its detractors still make it a far more beneficial and viable solution than HD-DVD.
3) So it costs $1000? Who cares?! How much did you pay for your current video card? How about your processor?
