I just want to play the game without selling my kidneys on the black market. Games are too expensive just like everything else. Everyone wants too much money for everything. I'd sell you a booger for $25.00 if I could convince you to buy it, but it doesn't mean it is actually worth what I am charging. I would also brag about being a techninja if I could do this hacking stuff myself.

There are plenty of folks who are just dishonest about why they want the circumvention equipment and plenty who are honest about a desire to have some personal insurance on their stuff. Backups are insurance for those willing to pay for their product, but people with a desire to defraud will do it without regard for anyone else and say anything to continue it.

Pricing is one of the most intensely researched portions of marketing any item. The marketing and sales managers will always perform a break even
analysis of their product and determine what they must earn per unit sold and set their price accordingly or MS decideds their price. Most are pretty good about reducing the price of their games over time. If you paid full price for your game, you have no business griping over the price. Caveat emptor seems not to mean too much to people anymore.

While I may gripe to myself about the cost of games and bemoan the loss of my kidney to afford my gaming addictions, I can't whine too much because I know I can buy the game used from a variety of outlets if I don't freak out about having it the instant it is released. Buy it used or take some time and check out a sale.

I make no comparisons to Ferraris or college textbooks or any other purchase. Those are another kind of thread altogether. Go have fun and pay what you think your game is worth, but don't gripe about it when you could have rented it first!

Porkchop Express

Comments on

The biggest problem for the prate wanna-bees and this hack - it requires a hardware firmware burner, not something many will have access to.

Impressive hack by these guys, no doubt. Games have virtually stayed the same price for two decades, despite great inflation. So, we're actually paying less for games than we did in the days of groups of about 10 people making 8-bit games. They are too greedy so i'm gonna steal one from the street."

Exactly. Could not have said it better myself. Pracy is just killing the game industry. It strikes hard against the PC platform so alot of developers aim to making games for consoles instead. But, it seems that this market will dissaper thanks to piracy. You damn pirates, work, get some money and buy they games! Are you too st**** to realise that there are actually people making their living by developing games? They work hard to bring you good games and you just copy them. If you could copy a Ferrari as easy as a computer game people would not buy Ferraris and kill the car industry too. You also have to understand that that Microsoft and Sony are losing money on each console. The plan is to sell the console for a low price and then make the money from the games. This will kill the whole industry and business model. We will end up with more expensive consoles and games thanks to piracy. You have to stop copy games first, then they can lower the price! People who mod their consoles are just taking advantage of the situation. They buy a cheap console, mod it and then pirate games. The industry will end upp losing alot.

And. I have to say that if you pirate a game that you had no intention to buy anyway the industry doesn't lose money on that. BUT! You should not have what you haven't paied for so it doesn't matter. Piracy isn't a right. Games isn't a right. Movies isn't a right. It's not the game-industry that is too greedy, it's you! You who pirate all games that are greedy!

Karl Viklund

Comments on

Copyright infringement is not the same thing as stealing. Please make the differentiation.

And the ability to backup games is not copyright infringement, so again stop bitching about how it's piracy. The fact that the 360 supposedly scratches its games is a great reason to invite this sort of breakthrough. When the games cost sixty bucks, yeah, I'm going to backup my investment. You guys who are complaining about it like it's some sort of bad thing sound like **aa public relations releases.

And yeah, games are pretty profitable. The games division of Sony is the most profitable branch it has. When you download games, burn and run on a modded console. Only because game developers and Sony makes money doesn't mean it's right to copy. Think about the situation like this. Especially on the "Xbox 360 Hacked" point. People are really not understanding what this DVD Firmware hack is. First and foremost, it's a DVD firmware hack, not a hack of the 360s core firmware. HUGE difference. The most this hack can accomplish is allow burned copies of 360 games. Right now, the only ones who could use the hack - if the hacked firmware were to be released - are those with the technicalt know-how to open the 360, open the DVD drive, desolder the chip that holds the FW, re-flash it using a hardware flasher, then replace the chip in the 360.

In short, the 360 itself hasn't been hacked, the DVD drive has. This is a long, long, long way from allowing unsigned code to run.

Dave
