The vast majority of the noise the xbox 360 makes is from the dvd drive that spins up to insane speeds when you play games. I have played around with the exact same part # of fans that are in the xbox in a HTPC case and at 12 volts the fans make the same amount of noise as an average 80mm fan (yes I know the fans in the xbox are 60mm!) The new power bricks hardly heat up, and if you have an overheating one, call microsoft and get a new one. they will ship it free, like they did to mine (I live in Canada). Also why are all the sony fanboys bashing microsoft so bad? Doesn't anybody realize that the cell processor which is based on the SAME architecture and whos main processor is most likely IDENTICAL to one of the xbox ones, and has 7 more little ones which add up to millions MORE transistors and are all running at 4 ghz will have the same, if not greater heat problems. Geez, the powerpc core had the same heat problems of the prescott when IBM got it to run at 2.5ghz plus. The damn things have a cooling aperatus that is half the size of the xbox in a powermac and had to be water cooled in a dual core and dual dual core config. Thats at 2.5 GHz! The fact that 3 of them run fine at 3.2 GHz with such a tiny cooler and so little airflow is a technical marvel. If your having such a problem you should check the ventilation around the xbox and call tech support before making an a$$ of yourself online.

Brad

Comments on

I will say that I have been playing my 360 for quite some time and that when I play oblivion or PDZ or Quake4 I play for 8-12 streches and have no problems with overheating (other than with Oblivion of course but I have heard many theories on why that locks up from Overheating to Cache clutter) whatever, what i will say is that Microsoft sucks because they refuse to openly admit these are problems and merely offer to solve them for you past you 90day warranty if you purchase their exteneded warranty for $60.00, thats BS to me. I understand Paying 4 exteneded warrantys when u buy a used car, but not a NEW one, it's free. (excuse the metaphore) but it conveys my point.
overall the whole attitude of release now and patch/fix later is BS and as consumers we need to start banding together and make our voices heard, i want the lastest and greatest NOW but when I call tech support for MSoft, they said in PDZ my game save was corrupted and to delete and try again, 3x F*-that, great game I can never finish? Well not like through it down my stairs or anything......but i mean like playing it till 5 in the morning non-stop for two months and oblivion takes a lot to power. (i actually blew a few fuses when i first plugged it in :)) It actually worked ok in the winter, but in the summer it wouldnt boot my games. I mean i could play oblivion for about 2 hrs and it would say disk read error and the fans would slow down. Thats when i thought it was overheating. I didnt have a warentee so i was going to have to pay like $129.00 plus $25 dollars for an extra year warentee and a repair. So i went with the intercooler as a last hope of not paying sooooo much money. I got it and havent had a problem since, plus it will extend the life of my Xbox 360! :) .

Kungfu2

Comments on

Has anyone thought that maybe Microsoft didn't address some issues so that some aftermarket companies could make a profit off of the console as well. I think that people would be complaining about Microsoft being a monopoly again and making too good of a product that other companies wouldnt make anything off of it because it wouldnt be needed. I figure as long as these aftermarket products are reasonable in price and are readily available i dont mind spending a few bucks for these products. I have also played mine and left it on for 2 days at most and never had performance problems. Finally I am not saying that any of you are wrong in thinking Microsoft should have thought about all of these things, but if you look at the overall product and performance, I dont see where there is a lot of room to complain. Especially considering what you get for the price compared to the PS3. Again this is just my opinion it may be wrong.

JamesFP

Comments on

No...
