Samsung's Tristar X828 6.9-mm thin champ
Hey check-it fella, there’s a
new slimster phone on the block kickin’ about by the name of X828, dig? At 6.9-milimeters (mostly, note that
top-end bulge), this new unannounced Samsung shaves a full millimeter off KTF’s previous skinny
champ, the EV-K100, which held the record for oh, about two weeks over that 8.8-mm
VK 2000 fatty. Now, with those dimensions you’d expect it to skimp on the specs, right? Au contraire mon
frere, the X828 still eeks-out a 1.9-inch 262k color screen, Bluetooth, MP3 player and 3D virtual surround capable
speakers, 80MB of on-board memory, and a 2 megapixel shooter. At this rate of slimaturization, we expect to see a
cellphone film we can slather across our palms by next year’s CES. Click-on for more pics after the break.

That's wee.
VBAjedi @ Apr 12th 2006 7:20AM
Look at that anorexically frail little thing where's mine?
xumdeo @ Apr 12th 2006 7:22AM
keep in mind that the thciness is uneven; the thinnnest part is indeed 6.9mm, but the part with the camera is more than 6.9mm

hm.. let me try posting a comment again..
The correct phrase should be:
"Au contraire mon fr?"
(way too much free time)

Impressive... shame it's a Samsung.
And i have owned one - an SGH-C100 - it was the biggest POS i've ever seen. Now have a SE T630 with eyes on a w800i - Sony Ericsson or HTC for me from now on.

Actually at this rate of *slimaturization* is expect to see mobile phones that are the exact same dimensions as a plastic phone card:
3.5 x 2.24 x 1/16 thick
- in fact I expect that the phone card will be a phone and once the minutes are used up you just throw it awayin less than a year.

Uhh, that's 'frere', not 'fraire'..
doug @ Apr 12th 2006 10:01AM
i would rather have a fatter phone that has a bigger & better screen personally
Jonathan @ Apr 12th 2006 12:04PM
Is the 6.9mm thickness a coincidence? That's a very precise number, and funnily enough it's exactly the same (to 0.1mm) thickness as an iPod Nano. I can see Samsung's informal advertising already...
john @ Apr 12th 2006 2:19PM
so since this phone is CDMA, does that mean sprint??

What I want:
* Cell phone with similar same dimensions to this X828 or the motorola l6 or l7
* b/w screen is fine (or color screen whoopdedoo)
* yes bluetooth
* yes integrated speakerphone
* yes SMS messaging
* yes simple ringtones
* yes alarmclock / calculator / calendar view
* no camara / no video capture / no optical/digital zoom
* no music (iTunes, mp3s, other)
* no musical ringtones
* no extra memory
* no speech dialing
* no themes, no screen savers (unless it only shows the time), no 'demo' games
* no photo caller id, no email, no internet surfing, no browser
ed @ Apr 12th 2006 3:34PM
Well, if they get to 5.0mm thick, they can make a cell phone that doubles as a hot-swappable PCMCIA Type-II notebook to Cell Phone adapter.
I mean, why buy both if you can have one?
shin @ Apr 12th 2006 6:28PM
#13., that idea ROCKS.

I so want this! After a year and a half, I'm dying to get rid of my razr, its crap battery life, and its ridiculous UI!
matt @ Apr 30th 2006 11:00PM
Funny thing, as soon as i saw this phone, the first thing i thought was i'd be so happy to trade my razr for it.. as much as i dont mind the music, i really dont need a camera, though..

I just got a Samsung X820, which seems to be the same as X828 (maybe this is the Asian version). It works great for me. So light that I cant feel it. Good talk time and camera resolution... No complaints until now.
