I am excited to see the handsets they launch. Since all the MVNO's are based on Sprints network it woudl be cool if one of them offered free calls to Sprint customers...it would help people change. That is the main reason that I wouldn't go to a MVNO. Tough business they're jumping into. But he does seem to have an unwavering focus on his demographic and his comment on the camera hit home for me. I'm not in that demographic so I can't say whether there's a need that offering mobile MySpace will fill enough to make people pay more to jump. The handsets (the 2 shown) don't seem to be atypical. But it often only takes successfully driving home the perception that "our product isn't your parents product" to grab that demographic.

We seem to be on the verge of making the cellphone into the next really useful device but it just can’t quite figure out what to be. I liked the idea (not helio) of making it into an electronic wallet type of device for paying x,y or z. Those devices and services have scored well in Korea and Japan and some think it's the national carriers that have stood in the way of that success here with their focus on easy to use, cheap phones. Helio conveniently offers 2nd-Tier Korean vendors a way to sell into the US through a friendly channel. It never happened and they lied to my face and I think it has to do with the fact I didnt fit in with their "personality profile". I always saw adds but never really knew what it was. I had been on verizon for years and went into a billing issue and ended up leaving them going to Cingular on a prepaid. I was walking through the mall one day and saw a kiosk featuring Helio, the Drift, Heat and Ocean. When I saw the Ocean for the very first time and what it was capaple of doing, I had to have it! i have to agree that its very hard to swich someone that is already on another phone carrier. but helio's services are exclusive and I am very happy with unlimited text messaging and picture messaging and web surfing for less than what i was shelling out of my pocket on a prepaid garbage phone that could only be used to talk on. my ocean is practically a computer and if I have to get to a computer I can count on my ocean. Some of my friends have Iphones and Sidekick 3's and you can see the difference in the quality of the phone and the helio does things that these other phones don't do. I am looking forward to the new helio handset lineup, right now we're at the Fin, Heat, and Ocean.
Hero, KickFlip and Drift have been discontinued and can't wait to see waht comes next!!!! if the ocean is considered the sidekick crusher, will there be an iphone crusher next??

martin
