My understanding is that AUK2 is a specific update that includes things like A2DP support as well as some other enhancements. It's planned in a future AKU but there are test versions of firmware for different HTC products that do indeed include A2DP. It went flawlessly and I did not lose any data. After going in ActiveSync and selecting "As items arrive" for both peak and off-hours, I was set for Direct Push (my company is already setup with Exchange 2003 with SP2).

Remember to reactivate your phone as instructed on the palm site using *228 and option 1. I did an initial manual sync in Outlook, and then waited. Emails started trickling in as they arrived, neat!

I then tested it with a friend who sent me a test email. Within 10 seconds of the "Send" button being pushed in his desktop Outlook, the little swirly ActiveSync arrows kicked in and the mail was being downloaded. I noticed the handshake is lighter than a full ActiveSync sync, but still longer than a BlackBerry. In all, I had the email on my Treo within 30 seconds of it being sent.

Although a few minutes later I received another e-mail on my desktop Outlook and the phone did not sync it, somehow. This is bad. Before I knew my phone would check every 10 minutes so I either waited or forced a sync if I expected anything urgent. But now, i do not want to just randomly check in case Direct Push missed something. I'll observe over the next few days to see if this was just a fluke or if this is a common occurence. As Microsoft MVP on mobility, you can bet I'll let Microsoft know loud and clear if this is the case.

I'll keep posting my experiences with Direct Push and the Treo on my blog. Check it to see updates.

ActiveNick

Comments on Palm Treo 700w Updater for AKU2 / MSFP on the web

Well.. I am an Exchange Admin and have just updated a brand new 700w with the AKU 2.0 update. (Which btw..seems to have been pulled from the Palm website.. Hmmmm....)

It appears to work flawlessly... I also admin our Blackberry BES server... and I can say there is maybe 1-3 seconds difference between arrivals on the two devices (BB getting delivered first). The only time I noticed no mail flowing was when I somehow turned off the phone wireless...

I have not yet tested the wipe feature added with the web admin tool on Exchange.. but will soon.

Also.. I was previously using an XV6700 (Audiovox) and must say this is much more stable and useable out of the box. Though I do miss the built in Wi-Fi on the 6700..

Oh..I did have a problem with the updater.. it would not run correctly from the setup.exe file... kept erroring out with "could not find Palm Treo 700x.msi" file of some such... I finally ran the update using the .msi itself and all was fine...

So far it looks VERY good... and all in all on par with Blackberry IMO.

Now if Palm will just RErelease the updater ;)

WayCool

Comments on Palm Treo 700w Updater for AKU2 / MSFP on the web

My experience applying this patch is not nearly as uneventful as everyone else's. The first thing I noticed was that mutch of my phone's data was wiped out - despite carefully heeding the warnings of the installation instructions.

After getting everything hooked back up, including the connection to my company's Exchange server, I'm now only able to synch email up via the phone's Active Sync function.. For some reason, I'm not able to update email from within Outlook Email. In Outlook Email, I used to be able to click on Menu, then Send/Recieve...now I cannot. It's there, but greyed out. I know my connection to Exchange is set up properly because I am successfully synching via ActiveSync. Anyone getting this problem?

Also - before I applied this patch, I had hooked up the SMS version of email push. It was pretty cool...until I heard that I was being charged for every SMS message from the server to my phone letting it know I had a new message it had to pick up. Is this new patch a different method of picking up email? If so, when I set it to sync "As Items Arrive", it asks me for my phone number..just like it did before. Anyone know anything about all this?

Tim Jameson

Comments on Palm Treo 700w Updater for AKU2 / MSFP on the web

Seems like the updater is down.
