I'm trying to get around spending a small fortune on an aftermarker setup and my hope is that I can get the power and ground and the line level audio for the left and right channels. Then splice the ipod cable onto a cd changer cable. I got the schematics for the volvo cd changer and it appears that this is pretty straight forward. Has anyone done something like this using a cd changer port. It appears that I need to connect the ground to pins 1 and 16 for the ground and then pin 23 to a 12v power source in the car and then pins 3 and 4 for the left and right channel audio out. Does anyone know if I use a 12v source in the car to get the needed 5volts for charging? Please let me know if I'm getting way off track or if this sounds correct. Thank you for your help!
Kris

Kris

Comments on How-To: Design your own iPod super dock (Part 2)

Thanks for the reply.

John

Comments on How-To: Design your own iPod super dock (Part 2)

Thank you so much, this post is very useful to me. I can get audio OK, but composite video is a problem. There appears to be an interlock in a genuine ipod dock that allows the video out to be selected, but if we wire our dock as shown above, we don't get composite. We've tried wiring the 500K resistor from Pin 21 to ground so it thinks it's in a dock, and also grounded Pin 11 (Serial GND) as another site suggested this was also required. In desperation, I took an Apple Composite video cable to bits and on the back of the iPod connector card, there are some tiny i.c's. Have Apple put in some security into newer iPod's to stop people using non-factory/un-licensed docks? If we put the iPod into video/TV mode and temporarily connect it to a genuine dock or composite cable, export starts OK and we can then transfer the iPod into the aircraft where we then get good video distribution, but if we select a music track and then go back to video, we lose data until we plug it back into the genuine cable/dock

Any help/comments gratefully received.
Harry

harry.lees

Comments on How-To: Design your own iPod super dock (Part 2)

I'm trying to fix an iPod dock of mine that broke when i stumbled across this web site.
