Not only that, but, its got its own power supply rather than going through USB. I guess the existing supply was already overtaxxed as is. No need to put another power draw. So, make room on that power bar.

It looks to be a standard external HDDVD drive with an xbox theme casing. So, perhaps its possibel to attach any generic drive to it an play back HDDVD. Now, if they surprised us and gave a HDDVD burner. That would be interesting. But, thats not gonna happen. And its not gonna be $100 either.

I wonder if you can play your DVD9 games off the add-on drive. Or, what happens if you attach a USB BD drive to it. I'm an XBOX and XBOX 360 owner. After I beat Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, I popped Counterstrike (xbox) in it and I play that nowadays. I don't like the attached drive anymore than the next guy, but I DO appreciate the efforts to keep the price "down" (though not cheap by my standards).

Sony may come out with a "prettier" console by integrating Blu-ray, but that's why it "costs" $600 (more acurately, why it's -sold- for $600...it costs $800). 1. Play between PC and Console. Who has done that before, that's something PS3 or Wii can't or won't go near.
2. Halo 2 had the highest opening night sales of any piece of entertainment ever released, eclipsing even Titanic.
3. Xbox Live is the only and best online solution period.

On top of that, they basically pulled the rug under Sony with the GTA episodic content exclusivity contract and now Madden is first on Xbox 360.

That being said, think about what will happen 6 months from now. PS3 will sell out instantly to fanboys everywhere, then sold on Ebay for 2X or 3X more. What will parents buy their kid who is dying for a new system. A Wii or an Xbox 360. That's when MS will be waiting with 10 million friggin units to sell this holiday season and with a much lower price point.

Microsoft is not only forcing performance pressure on Sony, but also financial. We all know MS might not have the best software engineers, but they have the most cut throat strategists. MS made a product that makes developers happy, it's easy to code for, and provides the same graphics as PS3. Do you think any 3rd party developers will code 3 versions of the same game. The 360 and PC have more in common than PS3 and PC, which means lower development costs, which means less PC games coming out for PS3, which we've seen already --> Oblivion for PC and 360, no PS3 in sight.

The failure here is PS3. PS2 was released in 1999, Xbox in 2001. That means Sony had 7 years to come up with a new system, MS only 4. With 3 years more and a whole lot more experience, Sony can't even make a system that is superior to the 360. Don't give me that crap about Sony having insane Killzone or MGS videos, those are all pre rendered garbage. Even the new GT5 was said to look stunning from scenery perspective, but close up, you can see the GT4 textures were used! LAME

Sony's fanboys really need to get their head examined. Sony has been lying to you guys all along.

Whatever happened to your dual output HDMI garbage. What about 1080P games as promised, gimme a break, who the hell is going to develop games at 1080P, are you smoking crack. Only a handful of TV's today even are able to display at 1080P, not to mention the lack of 1080P content in TV, or movies. Even Kojima stated MGS trailer could run on 360.

It's only Japanese nationalistic mentality that restrains Japanese developers from releasing on American systems.

The new PS3 controller blows. I could have came up with a better design than that if I took a shat and used what was left in the toilet. Is Sony so arrogant that they believe their over 15+ year old controller design is still ergonomic to gamers, Pulease! It's probably the same arrogance that defeated Sony from any of their other formats being successful, BetaMax, Atrac, UMD, and soon BR.

Blu-Ray, on the other hand, is required for the PS3. Even if you think it's a waste of money, it WILL put many more Blu-Ray players into the homes of gamers. It's a no brainer about which format will win.

I have a great PC (bought about a year ago for $2600) and I can play Oblivion just fine. I can't tell the difference between playing Oblivion on my 50' HD-TV and seeing it played in the stores on an X-Box 360. First, although ps3 will be capable of outputting content in 1080p, very few, if any, game studios will be designing games at that level of detail and resolution. As one comment noted, there are very few 1080p capable displays on the market, and even fewer are in the normal consumer's home; thus it would be essentially throwing away development money to design content that won't appeal to the lowest and broadest common denominator of the console gaming market. In reality, the 360 will be capable of producing identical cutting edge graphics, with ps3 having only the advantage of rendering more units on screen. This is not to say that ps3 does not have the capacity to surpass the 360; I believe the concensus is they are very similar in what will be rendered for the upcoming generation, and if ps3 holds any advantage, it has already been made immaterial by the fact that no studios will spend the money necessary to go above and beyond.

In regards to the HDDVD add-on for the 360; I would like to ask all of the fanboys and naysayers alike who are already complaining about it not rendering games, and remaining solely a video playing device: word? Its not as complicated as you all are making it. If you would like to watch HD content dvd's, microsoft has a wonderfully optional add-on you can purchase at your whim; if hd-dvd movies aren't your thing, don't..buy..it?

How does that compare to BR and ps3 is the next question. In the end, if film studios remain divided on use of BR or HDDVD, inevitably the buying market will become disenchanted with needing to follow which format carries which movies, and will end up buying neither. One format will need to triumph for it to catch on like the DVD wave. Frankly, I appreciate M$'s optional HD add-on; we whine constantly about the high-way robbery M$ conducts, but the fact remains that they are allowing HD as an option, where ps3 is making it the law of the land. Enough said on that.

We can debate all day which system is superior, but at the end of the day, when both systems are putting out similar cutting-edge gameplay, it will come down to personal preference. If Halo is one blogger's life, the 360 is clearly the superior option for him; however, if a second blogger's life is Final Fantasy, why have the gall to try and sway him towards a 360? I myself lean heavily on shooters (who am I kidding, I'm forever Halo addicted...and for those interested, I'll be starting a support group soon), so Microsoft is the path I have chosen.

In closing: Quit bickering about the superiority of systems and be excited for the system you have been planning to support eons before e3. Dream about your motion sensitive controllers, or your cameras and system-defying Live changes.

P.S. (Does anyone besides me think its sad that the highlight of a certain system that rhymes with pee is that you can play all the games you were playing 10 years ago? I give points to Msoft for one reason. They have finally realized 3rd party support is imperative for the 360's survival. Last (or current?) generation the fanboys were touting the ps2's superior games and library. As soon as ps3 was announced they switched to how much better GRAPHICALLY it is vs the 360. So which is it? As nintendo is proving, games and their content are much more important than how intense the graphics are. Don't get me wrong, graphics are vital (I am def. a graphics junky currently running an sli setup) but if games aren't fun or varied your system will lose. As msoft has done with snatching the gta4 license (doesn't matter if it is exclusive or not) is prove they are willing to go after QUALITY 3rd party support. USB 2.0 - 480 Mbps. Enough at least to 10 HDDVD players.

HDDVD device for XB360- $200. What you are waiting from such cheap device? It's just "addition". He doesn't needs HDMI.

Need full HD-player? Buy device for $1000.

Aspect ratio is controlled by TV. Just press button on your RC.
