They really deserve it though. I think the Wii by Nintendo will keep the console gaming business alive for another decade, thanks to them. My parents are a good example. Unless they played while I was sleeping, they have never touch any of my consoles (NES, Sega Genesis, N64).

One of the big reasons folks don't play video games is because of the darn button combos. Think back to the early days of Mortal Kombat. Who won? The guy who learned the dozens of buttton combos for the fighters.

To put it bluntly, that sucks. Games should not be about memorization, but rather a virtual extension of reality. You don't swing a golf club or throw a punch by holding down button B for half a second, then pressing X and Z simultaneously.

I have fun playing FPS games such as Unreal Tournament on the PC because it's easy to move the mouse to aim. Put me on an XBox with Halo and I am dead every round. This is why I have not had a new system since N64. I became fed up with having an interface that inaccurately interpreted my interactions (and losing, of course).

The Wii changes that. Why do we use a thumb to aim when we should be using our whole arm, it makes perfect sense. This guy Miyamoto is on the spot with marketshare.

Sure, Sony might have biggest marketshare, but that is a market of gamers. Gamers pale in comparision to everyone else in the world and that is what Nintendo will capitalize on because their system is cheaper and people who play it at their local BestBuy will fall in love with it.

Imagine if you are a sales person at a tech store and you see an elder gentleman come in browsing various gadgets. But now I see how wrong I was.

I was talking with my wife the other day about the consoles out there. Now, she is an NES and SNES goddess, but stopped there. When I told her about the new Wii controller, she was hooked. When it comes out, we will be buying a Wii.

Second, I was thinking about the games coming out recently. Many of the games that come out for PS3/X360 are not games that I personally think 12 year olds should be playing. I know, I'm getting old and getting worried, but I know that there are times I'm on the second story, look out a window, and realize what a great sniping position it would make. These games seem to not only be fun and engaging, but perfect games for the younger generation as well as older folks.

That's kind of how I'm feeling about it all. I really believe I'll be getting a Wii. Here's the kicker: And a PS3. I'm a grown man with disposable income, and I want a machine that will push the edges of my HDTV. I don't think it's about choice anymore, the Wii has a focus towards another market and that means a Wii and PS3 are compatible in the living room. And _that_ is what I've been missing.

lpret

Comments on

lol, in the second paragraph, games that 12 year olds should NOT be playing.

doh

lpret

Comments on

You didn't ask him about the name?
