I a drawer full of them, and specifically a VZW 7250, that does exactly those things - I used the phone number dialing one this morning... Honestly, having recently tested all the current windows mobile 5 offerings, and all the current BB offerings, I really do prefer the blackberries. The form factor and ease of use seem much better, and I also really like BES (once it's set up. setup is a bit of a bitch). Does it support Bluetooth Stereo Headsets? Does it sync with Microsoft Exchange out of the box? How many third party applications are avaiable for it? Does it have voice recognition? Does it have a camera for pics and video? Can it record voice notes? Does it have EVDO? And last but not least, is it as sleek and slick as the Moto Q?

Orneta

Comments on Verizon: Motorola Q not launching next week

I would agree the Blackberry is nice but unless you are some huge company the integration with Exchange is terrible. I'm an IT consultant and can't stand setting these up. It does get email from exchange through the webclient but that is about it. It only gets the email and you can't delete it from your Blackberry and have it delete it from Exchange. Unless they have implemented something I don't know about. You need toe Blackberry Enterprise Server to make it worth while. I work with companies under 50 employees and none of them are going to dump 5k into it. Windows Mobile 5.0 has push sync right out of the box and it works great. I'm sure they will keep perfecting it as well. I have the Treo 700W now and it is great. I can't wait to get my hands on one of the Moto Q's since it is about half as thick!!! Hopefully next week.

Jay

Comments on Verizon: Motorola Q not launching next week

LOL Winshit CRashes!!
This reminds me of the other crap floating around this site (specifically the ps3 bashing by xbox360 fanboys) Just because it's a certain brand does not automatically put the product into a certain category. I know how horrible they are with out one - honestly RIM should be embarrassed how poorly they work alone. As for the feature comparison with the Q, any windows mobile device is going to win that hands down, but most people who want blackberries don't want cameras or video or music or things like that. They want a device to carry around and do email and calendaring on, and they don't want to futz around with a touch screen or menus. I really do like windows mobile devices, I carried an MDA around for about a month, but in the long run I'll choose easier email use over a swiss army knife portable.

Oh, and there are EVDO and EDGE blackberries. The 7250 I mentioned before is EVDO, as is the 7130, and the 8700 is EDGE.

Lastly, the PocketAdmin software that was pointed out is remote admin software, but it's not an native RDP client, it's its own thing. I would actually choose Idokorro for that over PocketAdmin.

TorenC

Comments on Verizon: Motorola Q not launching next week

It is absolutely outrageous that they're shipping this phone and it will NOT contain the MSFP (Message Security and Feature Pack.) SP2 for Exchange has been out for how long now? Verizon pulled the same damned trick with the 700w. People would open the box and discover... "Wait a second - this isn't push email! This is a BS attempt at push email using SMS messages to prompt the device to go check for email!"

Lo and behold, 4 months after it was released, Palm FINALLY released the patch to enable MSFP. Yet I've read in many reviews that the Q "works with Exchange" - I call that hogwash. Yes it "functions" with Exchange, but let's see what it can't do...

1. Access the GAL

2. No "direct push" - SMS eats the battery. Complaint from my users without MSFP enabled devices.

3. No encryption

4. No remote wipe in the event the device is lost/stolen

And in the reviews I've read, MSFP is supposedly going to be a patch for the Q. What are these developers doing on a daily basis that they can't release a product that actually WORKS OUT OF THE BOX with technology that has been available for over 8 months?! Hats off to motorola.

And for all the WM5 fanbois out there - I have a Palm 700w. It sucks. WM5 sucks - it crashes, it's unintuitive to a non-techy user.

I had a BB 7750 before that - it was slow but at least it didn't crash (as much.) Of course, it couldn't play music or take crappy pictures, and it was as slow as molasses moving around. The Internet browsing on BlackBerry's is attrocious and they too release patches that break functionality (see most recent 4.1 for 7250's).

Both have their +/- but coming from BlackBerry, I expected to be using a BlackBerry killer - admittedly, I'm happier now with MSFP than before, but resetting my device every few days doesn't inspire confidence.

Cirrus
