My first mobile phone was an old Sanyo model I got with a Sprint service back in '98. I was just starting college so dad paid for it, and insisted I get that particular model as it had a GINOURMOUS battery (and a *whopping* 8 hour alk time). I hated that thing every second I had it.

But, my usage was really low, so I didn't get any benefit from the extra size. With this smart phone, I think plent of people will except the extra chunky-ness for a slick thumboard like that (particularly in *text* happy Japan...).

"I still can't get past the fact we're half way through 2006 ... and things like the moto q and others still are coming out lacking wifi... what is with these phone companys... SLAP THE DA*N WIFI IN THEM!"

I hear ya. I'm still rockin' yee olde PDA + Phone combo and enduring the 'happy to see you' pocket bulge because of that trend. I almost certainly would have switched to a smart phone by now if I chould just get the right balance of functionality (on a plan that I could afford/like).

But as much as I dislike it, it's not hard to figure out WHY they withold the wifi lovin'. If you can use wifi, you'll have less reason to use one of their data services for internet/email access (notice the units that DO have wifi are often marketed along with UNLIMITED data plans...so they don't lose money either way). Plus, once you've got wifi, Skype and possibly other VOIP services become an option, so you'll use less of their voice service (potentially anyway).

Data communication and Voice communication, and the people who profit from them, really are at odds these days. Ironic isn't ? Ma Bell was perfectly happy to let data flow through a voice line (analog modem), but she is death on the inverse (VOIP).

Then again maybe this is just corporate conspiracy paranoia. And the only reason they aren't in a rush to put in wifi is because they are waiting for 802.11N and/or WIMAX to become popular so that they can give the consumers the best possible tech for voice and data for their hard earned dollars...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oddmanout

Comments on Sharp's W-ZERO3[es] / WS007SH: WinMo 5 Pocket PC hotness, redefined

wow thats cool!

Bob

Comments on Sharp's W-ZERO3[es] / WS007SH: WinMo 5 Pocket PC hotness, redefined

Translated pages are sometimes hard to fully grasp... but the specs definitely state this handset has wifi.
