I think this is a commentary against the Chinese companies that blatantly rip off products knowing that its too difficult for anybody to do anything about it.
I don't see it as "Anti-Asian" everybody knows Korea and Japan make great products. Probably the best in the world. There is a huge difference between making a competing product for a cheaper retail price, and making a complete knock off. Most of the "anti-asian" posts on Engadget are about direct knock offs, not comparable products for a fraction of the price.

Also, claiming that this is a knock-off isn't anti-Asian; iRiver (the company who makes the original, since you didn't appear to actually read the article) is based in Korea.

It's true that all new products are influenced by prior products, but there's a difference between that and cases like this where the product's design clearly imitates the product of a more well-known manufacturer. Are you going to try to say that an Xbox 360 controller and a PS2 controller are as similar as this product and the iRiver Clix?
