We're trying to overlook the glaring irony in "Phantom" Entertainment, especially since year after year this company has been the most prominent vaporware hit since Duke Nukem Forever, but we just can't ignore the latest bit in their Phantom's comedy of errors that now has
our favorite gaming company officially changing name in hopes of "invigorating its marketing approach." The path forward as of a few months ago had Infinium getting ready and set to change their name, the
Phantom Lapboard set for release in Q2 of this year (wait, that's right now), and their Phantom Game Service to follow suit, but in a recent blurb from CEO Greg Koler, he astoundingly couldn't provide announcement dates for either. Previously blaming the annoyance of lawsuits and an
inability to come up with $11.5 million, we've yet to hear a more recent excuse as to why we should still put faith in the powers at Phantom, but they did accomplish one thing: changing that name, and issuing another six hundred million worthless shares of stock. Regardless of the never-ending delays, we're keeping our fingers crossed, because the new and (potentially) improved Phantom Entertainment could seriously rattle the gaming market, erm,
someday. And in the mean time, let the pumping and dumping begin!

What are you talking about guys, i have month enjoying and playing Duke Nuken Forever in my amazing Phantom Console. It's really amazing, i don't see nothing as powerfull as this machine, the incorporate Blue Ray is far beyond that crapy P3 implementation, our first generation are of 75GB by layer, imaging next year when this capacity will be triple.
The Infinum Labs build these amazing console here @ Dominican Republic, maybe tomorrow if i have time, i will send you some snashops.. :-)

I'd purchase one just to say I owned it... tell my kids about it.

You still beleive in Santa Claus?

You still beleive in Santa Claus? - Rémi
Yes. And the Tooth Fairy too. They're both at my house playing Duke Nukem Forever on the Phantom console.
I'll send Wonder Woman over in her invisible jet and you can play along too!

redstormpopcorn @ Jul 20th 2006 1:51AM
Er, wasn't Q2 2006 from April to June? Unless they're talking about their bizarro 2006 fiscal year that goes from Dec. 2006 to Nov. 2054.
Conrad @ Jul 20th 2006 2:50AM
I thought this happened back in May? I don't know what Tom's Hardware is playing at reporting this as if it's breaking news.

This is all sounding a bit Gizmondo to me: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/04/16/gametrac_to_gizmondo/
Well if Infinium does ever launch in the UK then maybe they could take over a certain store on Regent Street that I believe is still empty: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/01/21/gizmondo_shop/

Phantom Entertainment uh?.....
phan·tom also fan·tom:
1. a. Something apparently seen, heard, or sensed, but having no physical reality; a ghost or an apparition.
b. Something elusive or delusive.
2. An image that appears only in the mind; an illusion.
3. Something dreaded or despised.
or as and "adj"...
1. Resembling, characteristic of, or being a phantom; illusive.
2. Fictitious; nonexistent: phantom employees on the payroll.
Sounds good to me!
Phantom of the E3 @ Jul 20th 2006 3:41AM
Now they wanna be *REAL* PHANTOM, nice idea.

Met the guy once, then he sprouted wings and flew off to his make beleive land, waving, Holla.
Myself @ Jul 20th 2006 9:00AM
I have to drive past their building nearly everyday in downtown Sarasota, FL... Wonder how quickly the sign will change...
south @ Jul 20th 2006 9:15AM
it's only a matter of time before one of their execs totals a ferrari and blames dieter...

I remember when the Phantom was first announced, everyone was all hyped up and it seemed like I was the only one saying "Guys, it's obviously vaporware". The name is even Phantom, for Christ's sake. At the time I thought it was just an internet hoax, though I guess apparently there's at least a real building that the company is based in (according to the poster "Myself"). Still, I'm not holding my breath, and won't be suprised at all when the thing never reaches market.
lyra @ Jul 20th 2006 2:00PM
funny, i worked on some of their office stuff up here in seattle (yes, they had an office in fl also, that was amusing).
we watched them get mucked up and muddled. the idea was great. the execution has pretty much sucked like crazy.
*wanders back into the woodwork*
Matt @ Jul 20th 2006 4:32PM
How could they ever have been serious with names like Infinium (Infinity, as in the time it will take them to make the console) and Phantom (non-existant)?
GhostDoggy @ Jul 20th 2006 6:21PM
Which is more silly, this company or the people investing in it? Only shows some have more money than brains.
Not ironic... @ Jul 20th 2006 9:27PM
An ironic name for vaporware would be something that suggests it is actually going to be released. Phantom is just an amusingly fitting name.
Remotes @ Jul 27th 2006 12:29PM
Why would they even consider releasing it BEFORE the game download service is on-line - no point in this device without it! But I do love the Mouse & Keyboard for the couch that came up with.
MrPlum @ Oct 28th 2006 11:55AM
There is a 30% discount on offer on their web site for early orders for the new Phantom Lapboard. Looks pretty slick.
They start shipping next month. Would like to hear from anyone who buys one.
