Samsung's new S700 and S1000 cameras
After their last round of completely out of left field NV-series cameras, we were kind of hoping Samsung wouldn't again resort to their well-specced but below average line of Digimax cameras, but here we have it. Samsung's new seven megapixel S700 and ten megapixel S1000 get the job done with 2.4-inch LCDs, 3x optical zoom, 16MB internal memory, and in the case of the S1000 MPEG-4 VGA video recording. (Wait, didn't they already announce the S1000?) Expect them in august for $250 and $350, respectively. Just in case, need that link to the NVs again?

How needs 10 megapixels anyway??
You know...I've bought three different models in this price range, and the quality was fine. What was NOT fine, was the lens durability.
Maybe my rough treatment, but I've gone through 2 HPs and 1 Digimax. All had problems. I was given my money back on 2 of them, but I eventually upgraded to a Lumix.
Hopefully these NVs will be tougher.

how wants to preserve humanity anyway? Oops i mean who
At this moment and for the last few years I never needed a "Digital Camera"...
I think I'll wait for about 6-months more and see what is offered...
Speed is only a matter of Money, How fast do you want to Go?... As was said in the Movie Mad Max if I'm not mistaken...
So, the question How Good is How Good???...
Depends on what you will use it for... Sending Email Photos to Mom and other Family Members most low price range cameras will fit the bill...
Want to make yourself a Photography Star and have your Photos on most major News Sites, Magazines and other Print???...
Be prepared to spend some bucks... Even taking Quality Pics of little Jimmy for the Families first School Pics to send around to all the family members would be worth the investment...
Then again "I am cheap"...
"How needs 10 megapixels anyway??"
I'll tell you who... Me! And I don't just want 10, I want 20... no, 30!
15 years ago, when I wanted to upgrade my 20MB hard drive, I was asked the question: "Why on earth do you need a 120MB hard drive?" (That's MEGABYTE)
Why do we always think we're seeing the pinnacle of a new technology?
Nice new camera, but let's be honest... 16 MB of internal storage,... why would you need this if you can stick giga's of external storage in it. And yes, let the megapixels come to us... :-))) But you can ask yourself indeed the question, would you need this many megapixels for this sort of camera? The real photo freaks will nevertheless buy a digital reflex... But hey, if they can produce a 10 megapixel for the price of a 5, I'm not the one stopping them ;-)
Ah, this is getting me started on pixel rant again. My guess is the lenses on these cameras won't deliver a sharp enough image to the CCD to make it matter if there are 5, 7 or 10 megapixels. I've witnessed that an image created by a 6 megapixel camera with a great lens can simply be upsampled in Photoshop to provide a much sharper image than a 10 megapixel camera with an average lens. Without a high quality lens, you just end up with a lot more fuzzy pixels... Not to mention the pixels go to waste with the slightest blur due to camera shake, subject movement or imperfect focus...
The casing looks kind of generic, especially given Samsung's sexy products in other consumer electronic fields. But, hey, 10MP should make up for that.
And, to MacGeek, I'll tell you who needs 10MP: Everyone. At 10MP, you're finally getting about the same resolution as a good professional film camera. In a few years, every camera will be 10MP+ and we'll wonder how we got by on crummy 6MP cameras :)
uh.. are we in 2004 or .. 1994 ?
Lookin Goood!
Yeah, but for consumers, 10 megapixes is excesive, it's way bigger than average screen resolution. And also remember that megapixel is the quatity of pixels, not the quality.
AAH - THE UGLYNESSSS....it hurttsss
*froths at the mouth and passes out*
Richard.
There seems to be max. 2 GIGABYTE recommended.
Somebody does use more? Does 8 GIGabyte
work?
Is there a firmware upgrade?
Why they do not want an external cardreader used
for the SD memory card.
Is there another way used for storing the data
which could interfere with the readers?
Richard.
