The stealthy BlackBerry Stealth slinks behind the scenes no more. It's the BlackBerry 8100 and it's got a
camera, microSD slot, EDGE data, and media playback functionality --
just like we'd expected (so where's the damn
WiFi?). This should be due in
November on Cingular (no guarantees), but something tells us to expect an even earlier launch on T-Mo. Perhaps it's the T-Mo branding. We can't tell you much else as of right now, but big ups to Random Asian Dude for the hookup. Click on for a bunch more pics.
Sweet. When is it ready for Nextel/Sprint is my ? Probably never. Looks like more people will enjoy with is smaller size. Maybe the exec's at all my clients will stop complaining.
Oh my God! Oh my God! Stop the presses!!!
Thankfully I'm wearing my Depends!
Wow!!
I just soiled myself...
Calm down its just a phone
Is that a joystick? I thought Blackberries just had a scroll wheel.
Is that that dual lens camera that I see in the reflection?
I don't care how slick it is. Without a full Qwerty keyboard i'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole.
What an ugly interface.
Thank god for this, if it's true. I'm in the UK, stuck with the sidekick2, and thanks to t-mobile, no catalogue. I would have switched to a blackberry ages ago if it had had a camera. What are the little keyboards like to use though?
I'm not too worried about the keyboard (It's actually quite easy to get the hang of, and almost as quick), but surely for such a business oriented device, WiFi or HSDPA would be more important than a camera? If it doesn't have either I can't see why businesses won't choose the SE M600i or HTC TyTN over this.
Anyone notice that the phone itself has T-Mo branding, but the software has cingular branding (pic #6)? What up w/ that?
Chicago Joe: The phone is a T-Mobile phone. Some T-MObile markets allow roaming on the Cingular network. Some phones will show the ACTUAL cell you are connected to, some will not. So T-Mo phone on a Cingular network in this case. All is right and normal in the world, not some lame Photochop attempt.
Can I Get a damn 7290 lookin one with a camera I hate suretype with a passion or an 8700c i dont see why Crackberry Corp. cant give me all this with a regular qwerty board o and if they really wanna be nice gimme some WiFi
Just so RIM knows, I patented their entire invention, now I'm going to wait a decade, sue them when they're even richer, and laugh all the way to the bank. I'm the American Dream!
Unluckily for you, I've just patented the idea of patents, profits and new ideas in general. My lawyers will be contacting your lawyers soon, but tell them not to use the phone or computer, because i've patented them too.
Wow, very sleek looking. I'd like to see a pic of the *other* side - still has the BB scroll wheel I hope?!
Looks like your spy has a Kodak digi-cam.
.
Wi-Fi? The carriers don't want customers making free SKYPE calls on their cell phones, so don't look for Wi-Fi from any sort of mainstream cell phone anytime soon.
.
.
Plenty of business people go to bars in their off hours and take crazy pics. Why end the addiction at the office?
tennis guy:
Nokia N80? Samsung P200? HTC Wizard/Tytn? SE P990? Lots of phones have Wi-fi now, the carriers may not want them to, but they don't make the phones. The point is this is a Business phone and as such would be nice to be able to connect the the LAN at work and Remote Desktop all my files. The other point is a lot of businesses are restricting use of cameraphones at work, so I would have expected the camera to be at the bottom of the list for envisaged features.
Anyone know what that triangle left of the words "Edge" means?
The red triangle means that the devices is in roaming mode.
anyone know the camera spec? I just got a 7130c and unless this baby is 2 Mpx+ my weekend phone is going to be the SE K790a (if it ever comes out).
....Whoa. Secksolicious. The joystick was a long time coming, I just hope the scroll is still there too.
Also, excellent choice of music, Random Asian Dude.
1) There's a joystick... no side-jog?
2) Picture #2 shows "T-Mobile" branding on the device. Picture #6 shows it's roaming on Cingular.
my tmobile phone roams on cingular service in some cities.. this is nothing of concern
does anyone know if this badboy will support tethering? That would be amazing, i wanted the new 8600, but i need a phone that allows me to use its internet connection on my macbook.
The way prices are at the moment in the uk, it would cost me more to use a wifi hotspot in a cafe or hotel, than it would to just use the GPRS on my sk2. I'm really not fussed about having wifi on a phone.
Music and Video...Maybe we'll see a SlingBox client for this sometime.. I can only hope. I have to say I'd give up my qwerty, if I could have this with a sling client.
i would like to personally welcome this BlackBerry phone to three years ago.
Man, thats awesome. I thought it was the ROKR at first.
Last I ckecked, RIM's CEO said that a BlackBerry would NEVER have a camera on it nor support multimedia applications because BlackBerry is a BUSINESS TOOL. Not to say I'm not excited for this device, because I am. The main reason I moved away from RIM devices was because they lacked these features. Now maybe things will change. GG RIM!!
mike,
welcome to june 2006.
http://www.rimarkable.com/archives/762
see above for story in eweek re co-ceo discussing multimedia features in upcoming models.
should be interesting to see it in person, although i would like to think i could resist temptation and wait til q1 2007 for a qwerty model. i'm not terribly impressed with suretype.
Is that a trackball?? wow.
There goes my Sidekick 3. Done and done.
What a bunch of worthless crap
Thank goodness of the Treo
TC - you don't need WiFi to remote access your files at home, you can do it from a BlackBerry. All you need is to tell your IT dept to get in touch with GPXS - their software helps turn the BlackBerry into pocket laptop.
I love the shape but not interface.
It does not even have touch screen LCD?
I wish Treo's body looks this appealing:)
Good job finding this stuff, I put this post to my website www.Orgismo.com
Welcome to the Blackberry for the Paris Hilton Generation. If this was a blackberry developed for the business world it wouldnt have a camera, MP3 player or the security risk of an card slot. This phone was designed to be seen in the hands of Holly wood celebs or on the table at Bungalow 8 not on the hips of Wall Street wheeler dealers. RIM has finally decided to set its sights on the Hiptop3.
If you think of this as a lifestyle phone for the upwardly mobile hotell heiress with a passion for small dogs, the lack of HSDPA and WiFi pale in significance as opposed to what really matters to a social butterfly. Which incidentally is probably why its in a 7100 style chassis as opposed to an 8700. Less bulk and not that far removed (sizewise) as a closed V3 Razer.
Just my 2cents.
Oh look, it has the same charming keyboard as my BlackBerry 7100g!
tgat meanrs ut sucks asa
Piece of crap
So, Paris turned you down again, eh, Letrange?
Saluki, I honestly don't believe you about the spelling mistakes with Suretype - it learns quickly and the words you are misspelling certainly aren't ones that Suretype would.
Jeff
That was a JOKE
Not the part about my 7100 sucking though, that's 100% true. Suretype my A$$
So true about the paris hilton generation. Notice the similarities to the Vertu in the alignment of the keypad.
I don't think stealth is the code name for this project, but that's irrelevant, I guess... Looks good though, I think it's smart for RIM to get into the consumer end of things as well. As long as they keep the corporations happy and keep the "real" blackberry's up to date then all is good.
It would be great to see a feature by feature comparison to a WinCE based device. Was contemplating a Treo purchase, until seeing this.
I agree it is a sleek phone, I just got the 8700g and it rocks but I just got used to the full QWERTY keypad I dont know if I could go back to the double key lol. I wish it had Wifi. I have a 500 dollar digital cam I dont need one on a device but Wifi would rock.
so will this be replacing the tmobile SDA?
Biggest question is what type of music you can put on it. Will it be Microsoft PlaysForSure, Apple iTunes version, or some new player or RIMM-built?
Dag this phone looks butter. exactly what a lot of us have been waiting for. the reliability of crackberry with some of treos(clunky and ugly. touchscreen=inconvenient). I owned the 7105t and switched to the Q cause the suretype got tedious. with these added features though, i'm gonna have to cancel my contract. Being able to write with one hand is huge. i walk in manhattan and only needed one hand to navigate, check and write sms fast with the 7105 which is the same form factor. lets see someone do that on a treo. Q is nice but its slow and the mail/textmessage/mms is in three different folders unlike blackberry. kinda miss comic sans font too. the size looks to be about 4inches by 2inches. solid. thinner than the 7105t for sure. the words that give me problems on suretype regardless of putting words in memory are: her/grr, she/age, yet/try, duck/*uck and about eight others. annoying. if you use those words a lot like i do, might want to consider against even though i'm surely heading back to tmobile for this phone come the end of next month. concession: sure type is a nice idea because you can thin it out. i don't know what all of you are complaining about it losing its business appeal. more features, the merrier i say. who needs wifi. we all got 2.8lb laptops anyhow. does anyone know anything more than the center trackball? you think it'll be sensor based or mechanical and actually scroll. read on one of these bbs boards that the round ball is a four way. hoping for it to scroll up and down only.
doubt it'll replace the mda. its a different creature. as for the music player, good question. looks like a third party type player in that pic. doubt it'll run any windowsmedia, itunes, etc. rim surely has a player that'll play from the microsd card which is sweet. amen in that last comment about one handing the phone and navigating on the run. puts treos to shame in that regard. go crackberry!
i hope and pray blackberries never ever goes touch screen. leave that to the treonauts.
Sheesh, what a bunch of tech nerds here. "DUUUHHH, I'm not touching that with a 10ft pole"..."DAAAAHHH, I love my Treo". It's a phone people, a new phone for RIM that's not even out yet. To the SureType haters, if you can't type a sentence in your 71xx BB, then you need to stop using cell phones. I have never had a problem with typing on my 7100t, in fact I type faster on it than on my friend's baby-finger Treo keyboard.
It will be realeased on the 12th of september, the t-mobile retail stores already have the dummy versions, so they can get to know the phone and be able to answer all your questions.
i played with it yesterday, its amazing.... theres not track wheel... theres a scroll ball in the middle... sexyest thing ever... they say the release date on T is sept 28 or 30 soo it will probly be oct/nov before we carry it in canada. but i should be getting mine in about 2-3 weeks... i cant wait! :D muhahahhaah its a killer phone, its a must buy!
I can personally say I saw this phone yesterday at a Chicagoland T-Mobile store. It was not for sale but a T-Mobile employee was using it/testing it for T-Mobile. He said they should be out @ T-Mobile before the end of the year. It is really cool looking; certainly better than the 7105 of which we have returned most in our office since the voice quality is crap. I still like the 8700 with full keyboard.
Does anyone know if Verizon is going to carry the Pearl?
Terence , A great source for BlackBerry Pearl 8100 Specifications can be found here:
