Did anyone go to CES before E3 came out? (when it was about games).

E3 is downsizing because the major publishers dont want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on it any longer. It was mutually agreed that there was not a return that justified it.

No one is getting rid of E3. It will be back again next year, but it is not going to be in the same format everyone is use to. Quote from The Entertainment Software Assn:

"E3 2007 will be a more intimate event focused on targeted, personalized meetings and activities."

Also ESA President Doug Lowenstein said:

"he and other industry executives decided E3 had become ineffective in helping exhibitors reach their desired audience. 'You have to ask, is E3 the most efficient way, the most cost-effective way to interact with the media? And I think the answer to that is no,' he says. 'The conference had come to be attended by many people who had tenuous connections to the industry and the media. I think the main thing thats going to be different is, by making it invitation-only, people are going to be interacting with the people they want to see.'"

With that being said, I have to agree with, jim busike's post. We're not going to get an E3 replacement. They are changing this format to save money. They are not going to then turn around and spend that savings on an additional show, when they are already attending E3.]]>Aug 11th 2006 4:12PM
