The 360 and the PS3 are both going th graphical powerhouse route, but that doesn't mean that the Wii is any less a next-gen system.
If you consider the difference of tech between the XBox/360, or the PS2/PS3, I'd say the Gamecube/Wii has the largest degree of separation in terms of tech. Maybe the processors inside are similar, but in terms of NEW technology, I think they're pretty high up in next-gen territory. At least to the level of innovation as the Blu-ray, and I personally think the Wiimote is a more innovative, immersive technology.

But yes, the Wii is next-gen, unless you're shallow and think purely in terms of increased graphics capability the vast majority of people either won't see because they don't have an HDTV, or favour gameplay over graphics.

Aggy

Comments on Wii for November under $250, and it "won't have hidden fees or costs"

That's a good price, let's just hope that the $ doesn't get changed to a £ when it's sold in the UK, as oh-so-many things do.

AS it stands, $250 roughly translates to £150, which is a damn fine price for a new games console.

Hoepfully, the extra controllers wont cost too much, and i also hope the games arent much of £35 ($60 approx).

I'm very much looking forward to the release!

SKM

Comments on Wii for November under $250, and it "won't have hidden fees or costs"

Thus far, Microsoft is the only ones to charge for online gameplay outside of MMORPGS. Best features of XBL is gamertags, friends lists etc, which isn't necessarily advanced or expensive to implement, pretty much every website with a log-in does something similar. Large sucess of XBL is that you really don't have the option of playing online without it. If publishers were allowed to offer online gameplay for the Xbox from their own servers for free like EA does with the PC, PS2, I'm sure XBL would be less compeling a package.

I remember Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast didn't charge for online gameplay either, that was one of the first examples of consoles online (other than Nintendo's Satellaview BS-X broadcast satellite system).

Shootist

Comments on Wii for November under $250, and it "won't have hidden fees or costs"

I traditionally go with playstations, as I'm addicted to the FF series.
