We're just a few short months away from Sony's stated launch and we have yet to see any live working models. While the lack of gaming was an issue the other major topic was the size of the original XBOX. You're not forced to pay for a next gen drive if you don't want it. And with the 360, you can always add it later. I never was interested in faceplates, until I saw the Pro-sports themed faceplates. And who cares how big the 360 power brick is, it's on the floor or behind a cabinet for most people, out of sight and out of mind. The PS3 is too big, too expensive, doesn't support Media Center extender, and the Blunder-Ray Drive's extra copy-protection scheme PREVENTS streaming of HD content event if Media Center extension could be added later. Plus, all the Blunder-Ray reviews of quality HD playback have been poor compared to HD-DVD. This system will use expensive media, and will require users to fork out more than 20 % higher prices for the games. A large PS3 is okay; it would just need to go at the bottom of your AV stack. However, making it rounded on top prevents this, so you either have to balance the PS3 atop much smaller components or you have to make a new stack just for it.

The PS3's design may as well be a top-loader for the roundedness of the top surface. I can't see getting one because I don't know where I would put it. Now that the 360 actually has WAY more generalized processing power than the PS3 the fanboys are all of a sudden saying that size doesn't matter and making a "color" argument? Isn't it getting just a little pathetic.

To argue the power brick is a weak argument because it is actually a much smarter and economical decision to have it attach externally. Not only does it make the 360 fit easier in any space but if it happens to brake you don't have to send in the entire system for repair. "Well if the 360 had an internal power supply it would be just as big," that's exactly why it is external. MS has allowed its consumers the luxury of space efficiency, low cost, and options. They aren't producing a giant system and then jamming HDDVD down our throats. They shouldn't be condemned for that.

Also, with such a huge size why the domed top? Also, with everything built in (especially the power supply) the system is going to really heat up. Let's face it, most shelves in entertainment centers aren't made for such large devices and made of wood. Which means although the PS3 may fit it won't have much breathing room and air circulation. I'm predicting huge overheating problems and system repairs at launch.

Kmach

Comments on

normally, i wouldn't say it. but somebody has to say it. might as well be me.
looking at that top picture, what would the child of a 360 and a ps3 look like? anyone?

Austin

Comments on

Well actually it will be like this

in Japan:

1st Wii
2nd PS3
3rd xbox 360

America:
1st Wii
2nd 360
3rd PS3

It's all about the games.
Wii is going to have the same success as the DS in Japan.

Oh and there are too many M$ xbox fanboys in this message board.

Wii and Zelda will sell more than 360 and gears of war, count on it.

anthony f.

Comments on

Raider said:

It looks like a Bose DVD player, on steroids.

Lloyd, I don't know what you're smokin, but even though it is huge, it looks way better than the Bland 360.
_____________________________

Exactly my point! This system will use expensive media, and will require users to fork out more than 20 % higher prices for the games.
