the cellphone industry in japan was pushed forward greatly because of girls that like hello kitty. Teenage girls brought a huge amount of capital to the phone companies, who then took it and expanded to where they are today.

I don't know about any other asian countries but the impact on this "kawaii" japanese trend is pretty bad in Thailand.

Although it's kinda handy, instead of buying roses to apologize to my girlfriends, i could just buy anything Hello Kitty and she will actually turn to love me more.
